Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 21, 2015 9:51 pm Hi Everyone, Long time reader, first time poster! I've been reading through this forum for a few months, and finally decided that I wanted to join up and start posting. We have purchased land and signed an initial contract with Metricon. We have our colour appointment in 2 weeks, and SO much to do before then in terms of making decisions. I am most concerned that we don't know a lot of prices for upgrades of things we are interested in prior to our colour appointment. Did anyone else find this extremely frustrating? No matter how many times I've asked, just will not get concrete answers on prices of upgrades and just keep getting palmed off "you will find out at your colour appointment". For example, how much does it cost to go to category 3 caesarstone bench tops from category 1? And what about colour bond roofing? Apart from this frustration, everyone have been going relatively smoothly for us so far. Would love to hear anyone else's experiences, especially if you're building with Metricon and/or in the same area. Cheers, Sarahl. Re: Warralilly Coast - building a Cohen 28 Metricon 2Jul 20, 2015 10:32 pm Hi, We are also early on the journey of building with Metricon - we are building the Soho 32 in Chisholm (near Maitland/ Newcastle) We have our colour appointment this Thursday, we too are looking at some caesarstone upgrades to category 3 so I will share any knowledge I get from our appointment! It has been difficult getting prices pre appointment from Metricon but I did ask studio M about what it would cost for Cat 5 Caesarstone, I pushed for an estimate and they were reluctant but said approx basic kitchen would be 6K to upgrade to cat 5!!! That made the choice easier!! So it remains to be seen for Cat 3 but I will share any info we get! It has been interesting researching the flooring options as that too is a sketchy situation its almost impossible to get an accurate price. I can tell you that to lay rectified porcelain tiles with Di Lorenzo the labour costs on top are around $61 with comprises of $37 labour for the floor prep and $24 extra glue an underlay - for walls you take off the $24 apparently...so with our package as a Metro range house our allowance is only $25 so you pay the difference between that and the cost of the tile...expensive little exercise. We took the flooring package out and are planning to do it after handover but just working out if we should add it back in or not... Our land is in the registration office hoping to be done in the next few weeks and hoping to break dirt before September - could be wishful thinking!!! Keen to keep chatting with fellow Metricon peeps at a similar stage! These blogs are really helpful! Re: Warralilly Coast - building a Cohen 28 Metricon 3Jul 20, 2015 10:34 pm After re reading your post and noticing the date, I just realised you may have had your appointment already! Keen to hear how you went?? Any tips or price info welcomed lol we go this Thursday! Re: Warralilly Coast - building a Cohen 28 Metricon 4Jul 21, 2015 12:35 pm Hi sarahj88, we are also a Metricon build but on the Gold Coast. I have to agree with the lack of info regarding upgrade prices. Our sales consultant showed us how to get around it and we added all the upgrades we wanted to our preliminary contract, I just had to visit m studio to get the codes and she did the rest. Looking forward to following your build. Re: Warralilly Coast - building a Cohen 28 Metricon 5Oct 20, 2017 11:54 pm sarahj88 Hi Everyone, Long time reader, first time poster!
