Do you think you will get a slab before xmas? Re: Our First Dream Home 44Dec 07, 2017 6:29 am allblaqk Yay thats great! Do you think you will get a slab before xmas? I actually didn’t think we were even going to get our site cut by Christmas. The builder is shutting down on the 20th and our plans aren’t back from the certifier. So I’m not sure why they have even done the site cut. There is another block by the same builder in our small estate that our neighbour says started the same day so I’m guessing that’s why they’ve done ours. I’m not holding my breath getting the slab in by Xmas. But it would be great if they could so that it could have that curing time over the shut down. We have received the engineering for them and we are waiting to hear back from the certifier now. Hopefully we can get it built before the slab goes down or at least before the frame. My husband is building them himself so it’s going to be a massive job :/ My current dilemma is my kitchen island bench. I’m being so indecisive about it. We are having seating on both sides at one end. So I asked for it to be like this with a gap straight through. But now I think maybe a full front will give more impact with having a feature colour island. I can’t decide on char blue or natural oak ravine. I’m having polar white sheen for the upper and lower wall cupboards and 40 mm alpine white stone bench with waterfall ends on the island. This is copied from a poster on this forum showing a char blue island. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And this is a natural oak island from Pinterest. I’m driving my husband and cabinetmaker crazy. I’m happy to not spend the money in this area but I just don’t know what else I like. You mentioned you are not going with a Hamptons kitchen, but what about the rest of the home? What kind of style are you going for furniture/ decor wise? What sort of flooring are you thinking? As the kitchen is usually the focal point, it’s nice to flow that style through the rest of the home. Ideally it should work in with your floors and furniture and vice versa. Thinking about your flooring first in particular might help and what is going to look best with that. With the island, I feel a different/bolder colour will make more of an impact if it’s closed i.e no see through part. Re: Our First Dream Home 48Jan 10, 2018 6:45 pm Thank you for the picture H. You have a beautiful kitchen. It’s great to see colours in real kitchens. Dani I’ve got my colour selections back up further. I had selected all black tap wear and kitchen sinks. I have chosen vinyl plank flooring. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ and I’m going to go with snow season half or quarter on the walls. I’d just be mindful that any timber look laminate in the kitchen doesn’t clash with it. Solid colours might be a better choice. I get though wanting to have some sort of feature in the kitchen given you are having white cabinets and a white bench top. Though the black tapware will draw the eye. Black cabinet handles could also be a feature and tie in with the tapware Re: Our First Dream Home 50Jan 17, 2018 1:11 am Thank you Dani. I’ve been procrastinating so much about my colours! I dragged my husband to the Rochedale Display World on the weekend to look at kitchen colour combinations and finally settled on just a white on white kitchen with the island half open. I think the black taps and handle will be the feature. On the way home my husband says I think that will go with the floor you liked (from our colour selection) I replied We chose it because it’s the one you liked from the display home. Turns out neither of us loved the floor and we had both been trying to compromise . So I took your advice Dani and thought about what style I wanted and which flooring matched and went from there. I love the coastal style. I love whites and I love the open airy comfortable feeling. So I went back to our selections place and got all the floor samples and brought them home and decided to go with the heartridge blackbutt. I think it’s a great coastal colour and I love the matte finish and diversity of the heartridge luxury vinyl planks. So I’d like to send a big thank you to Charlie at Project Floors at Slacks Creek. He was so easy to talk to and really helped me decide on the colour and arranged for my old selection to be sent back and order my new selection at no extra charge. He is so lovely and if anyone is looking for flooring or blinds in the Brisbane area drop in and see them. Great prices and such great service. http://projectfloors.com.au I can’t wait to see it come together! Love the new flooring choice and so glad you were able to change it at no extra charge! So funny that you both thought you were compromising and trying to keep the other happy. Building a house together at times is definitely about compromise!! But great on this occasion you didn’t have to and both got what you like. I’m sure it’s all going to cone together nicely. Good to have that checked off the list! Next on ours is paint colors, mirrors and pendant lights. I hope we can agree on a colour...! They look so different in real life. I painted a board for each colour and put them around the house for a couple of days to see how they look in different lights. My husband thinks I’m crazy lol. We’ve bought and tested no fewer than 8 sample pots Think we’ve now narrowed it down to two and will be testing them out on the actual plaster in the house next week Re: Our First Dream Home 54Jan 18, 2018 12:08 am Wow, that’s awesome. I tested two exterior and two interior and I think I’m going to go with a different colour from a display home lol. The bay windows really add character. I already have a couple of quotes for plantation shutters and am trying to budget to get them out in on handover. It will be a priority as we don’t have any privacy glass on our bathroom or ensuite windows at the front of the house . Thank you for following my journey. How long ago did you build your house?
