Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our First Dream Home Week 2 Slab - G&P Builders 81Feb 02, 2018 1:54 am I am really interested to hear what are they planning to do with the wall next to the shower, is there enough space for the frame? They certainly can not allow the frame to overhang the slab, too. Also, it seems that you are NOT having a brick veneer build? What is it going to be then? Our First Dream Home Week 2 Slab - G&P Builders 82Feb 02, 2018 9:49 am Apparently that wall is fine and has enough room for the frame. We are having all James Hardie Linea boards. It will be interesting to see how it all sits when they do the frame. I’m glad to see you back! The builder emailed me back about the bath waste and said it is their error and they will cut out part of the slab and reposition the pipe. I’m a bit worried about the integrity of the slab but they have assured me it will be fine. Building our first custom dream home. https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?share_ ... are_type=t Fingers crossed the fix up goes well and the frames start soon. So G&P do stick frames or pre fab? Re: Our First Dream Home Week 2 Slab - G&P Builders 84Feb 05, 2018 1:02 pm Timber on site ready for the carpenters. Received an update last week that we should have the carpenters there this week sometime and the roof started third week of February. Exciting times! We had a slab christening on the weekend, it’s all getting very real. tribe7 G&P build their frames on site which I’m happy about Someone needs to actually ban me from Pinterest and thinking about my colours. I have a real problem. I’m changing my mind as often as I’m changing my underwear these days . There are just so many choices and so many looks I love. And I’m constantly stressing that things won’t go together. We were going with a Hamptons theme at first but when I cut out the upgrades to the kitchen I’ve turned to more of a modern Australian coastal with white, blackbutt and oak and no shaker cabinets or marble look stone. Now I’m not sure that the black plumbing fixtures match my new direction but my husband seems to have his heart set on the black. Silly me went back to Reece today and I’m really liking the chrome. But tomorrow I may have changed my mind again. 🤫 Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Our First Dream Home Week 2 Slab - G&P Builders 85Feb 05, 2018 5:29 pm Lol. I’m almost 12 months into our build. How many times do you reckon I’ve changed my mind in this time? Just last week I changed our splashback tile and the colour of some of our bench tops. And don’t get me started on Pinterest! I’m still on there every other day. I think it’s all part of the process to second guess but I generally find the only things I second guess with are things I wasn’t totally certain of in the first place. Re: Our First Dream Home Week 2 Slab - G&P Builders 86Feb 05, 2018 9:05 pm It’s hard to not second guess yourself SN, I don’t 100% love my carpet colour and think i should change it to the shade lighter but it throws a purple and then I would have to change my vinyl floor colour to suit the carpet and the new vinyl colour won’t go with my kitchen, it’s a giant water fall effect with changing things. You have picked clean modern colours that will not date. The black tapeware will look amazing and you can always add touches of colour to lift a space if need be. TX Maxx at West ipswich have really lovely timber trays which would look awesome on a bench filled with bits and bobs. (I might of brought one for my dining table 🤭) I do agree with Dani about Pinterest I’m dying with pendant lights at the moment I wish I could just damn well pick something. Oh nice to see the T2 timber onsite and so good to see the make there own stick frames. Can’t wait to see it take shape Re: Our First Dream Home Week 2 Slab - G&P Builders 87Feb 05, 2018 9:49 pm Thank you guys. It’s so nice to have a place to chat to people who understand the craziness of building. A girl at work is actually building as well and we are both in the same boat. When we work together it’s just one big procrastination lol. Its so true Dani, the things I’m always second guessing are the ones I’ve never been sure on. And if I change one thing it’s has the flow on affect to my whole house, like your carpet Tribe. It’s confusing but I love it. I don’t know what I’m going to do with all my time when it’s all over. I’ll have to move onto the landscaping Building our first custom dream home. https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?share_ ... are_type=t Re: Our First Dream Home Week 2 Slab - G&P Builders 88Feb 06, 2018 6:36 am Dying in an understatement Tribe! I’ve been obsessed with pendant lights for months!! I think I spoiled myself looking at all the American websites early on. The range we have here is pitiful in comparison. Beacon lighting has a lot to answer for especially with their prices!! Problem is there are so many beautiful ones online to choose from and then there is the issue of having to get them rewired to work here Trust your gut Sparrow. If you keep looking at other options then something isn’t right. But yes the difficulty is if and how it will affect your other choices. Some things you have to just cross your fingers with and hope for the best. Your selections are lovely from what I’ve seen so I’m sure whatever you choose will look great Re: Our First Dream Home Week 2 Slab - G&P Builders 89Feb 06, 2018 1:17 pm Well my floor spout for the ensuite arrived. I bought it on sale online for $400 ish and compared to the $3000 for the one at Reece I thought I would take a chance. Everything else we are getting is from Reece. So now there is no more procrastinating we are definitely having black plumbing fixtures. Now to procrastinate over whether my cabinetry colours suit the black tapware . Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The frame has started and the trusses have been delivered. The carpenters onsite were super lovely and are going to add some noggins where I need them and they also let me move my butlers pantry door over slightly. The benefit of them building the frame onsite. The draftsman couldn’t seem to understand/get my butlers pantry just right so my builder had told me we would be able to fix it onsite. I was very wary because of all the horror stories I have read on here but true to his word we sorted it out onsite in 2 minutes. I’m guessing they will just keep to the original bookings. Re: Our First Dream Home Week 3 Frame - G&P Builders 91Feb 08, 2018 10:40 pm Wow smashing along! That is really quick progress. I hope they bring your roofing schedule forward to keep the pace. Great buy with your floor mounted bath spout too such a better buy compared to $3k . Our First Dream Home Week 3 Frame - G&P Builders 94Feb 09, 2018 10:36 am I haven’t actually walked through yet Tribe. I’ve been on afternoon shifts so I can only go in the morning when the site is busy. We’re planning to go out on the weekend and take a walk through. Miss 5 is very excited to see her walls lol.
I think our builder tends to schedule quite far out so I don’t think they will bring the roof forward but I might be cheeky and ask if they do My husband did the school run today so I won’t be able to go past today I’m addicted to seeing the progress everyday. I bought our dining pendant ages ago, found that one easy too, but struggling with the rest. We are going with a modern Hamptons style, maybe with a bit of a nautical theme but not sure. I feel like my style is really hard to pin down as sometimes I like rustic stuff and at other times more chic. I think because there are so many variations of this theme you end up liking a bit of everything rather than just one style - probably why I’m also having trouble finding pendants. For the bedroom for example I love the classy look of a drum shade with a bit of crystal chandelier, then I see something on Pinterest like these and I’m torn! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Sparrowsnest, lucky you, your build is flying along! It’s tempting to go past everyday when you live close by but so disappointing when there’s no visible progress. As we are building a custom design things are A LOT slower for us, so I have to make myself stay away during the week and only go past on weekends Our First Dream Home Week 3 Frame - G&P Builders 97Feb 09, 2018 10:05 pm The frame is finished .
Our home is custom as well Dani, we are very lucky it is going so quickly. I hope it continues at this pace but I think it will be just sitting idle next week until the roofers come the next week. Wow then you are extra lucky it is going so quickly! That's awesome. We've had a real shortage of good tradies around our area and terrible weather to deal with early on so it took over six months to get to lock up! We are building double storey though. I too are trying to go with a Coastal theme with a little shout out to Hamptons style. I would like to go full Hamptons style one day, but not this build.
