Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our First Dream Home 21Nov 15, 2017 10:45 pm Thanks guys. I really wanted that streamline look and no wasted space. My husband saw 2 double hung windows used in the bedroom in a display home on the weekend and loved it so I asked our builder to include changing all of our bedrooms to look like this with our list. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I have never been happy with the front elevation really. Having the wet areas at the front means that the windows have always been mismatched. But I didn’t want all the kids bedrooms at the front of the house so I had to make the sacrifice. Now I’m thinking of making a full length double hung in both bathrooms. I think it will look the best from the outside. My builder thinks it’s going to look like a prison if we security screen it (which we hadn’t planned on doing anyway). Now I’m torn. So I think having all of those long windows will really break up my dark board. This is a dulux image of the colour Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Decisions are hard lol. What lovely views you have there and a great floor plan. The kitchen / living is going to be a nice open space! Hmm totally get your quandary with the windows. It’s nice to have them match in style at the front, at least in length but not necessarily width if you get my meaning. Ie some can be single panel, others double and so on. So maybe there’s an in-between solution you can work out? Really love the outside colour choice. Very bold but lovely Looking forward to following your build Re: Our First Dream Home 23Nov 17, 2017 10:47 pm We've got three double-hung windows in the front of our house. I'll take some pics tomorrow at different distances and see what you think.! I think if you want to match your bathroom window you can still have it frosted to provide some privacy/dignity. Otherwise, mandatory blinds may be required anyway Follow our first house build here! -> https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=86484 Re: Our First Dream Home 24Nov 20, 2017 10:35 am Thank you Dani. That would be great if you could take some pics Rural thank you. I have seen allot of the double hung around my area now that I’ve been taking notice. The thing with my house is it’s so wide so I would have 11 double hungs on the front facade . My husband and I went away to Melbourne for the weekend for a wedding without the kids. I thought we would take some time to get our house stuff decided on without any interruptions. But we had a fun instead and now we’re back home very sorry for ourselves and no decision made lol. The build process often can be anything but! Yep that’s a lot of windows! I’m sure you’ll find a solution that’s practical yet aesthetically pleasing... well maybe one more so than the other but that’s usually how it goes. One or the other wins out in the end. Just need to decide what is more important Re: Our First Dream Home 26Nov 20, 2017 11:57 pm Sorry for the delay. Crazy moving and then crazy work day! Hope these pics help. I think I had realised early on that these security screens looked really prison-like... but you really avoid them.. coz its mandatory now for safety reasons. To be honest I would rather no security screens or just mesh... but ah well! Safer with the metal honey comb frame perhaps! I think your security screens really blend in. Not prison-y at all lol. It’s funny all of the little things you have never thought of before like how prison-y windows can be and then you start building. I am having simple flyscreens on mine and will upgrade to amplimesh later. I’m going to go with double hungs for all rooms except the media which I’m going to keep as the original window. Just to have one slightly different and break it up. I think that’s what I’m going to go anyway I’m worried if I change my mind again my builder will cut us off lol. The top option. In fact, I remember looking at our elevations in prototype drawings thinking about all the dead spaces we needed to fill when the original design had few windows. It resulted in a few window add-ons and altered window types. It was really worth it... even our builder admires my insight. Haha! Need to copyright my modified building design.... But yeah, I was totally obsessed with the security screens. I almost forbid them to put the 'honey-combed' ones on our front door, because I imagined when having an opened front door to let breeze in, it would look like a prison gate with the security screen still closed. I really pushed for a plain mesh one. In the end, I just let it be. Better to have a secure house over the look in some cases! Our consultant Raelene really seemed to know her stuff which took allot of the stress out of it. But I really lack vision. She cut up all these pieces of colour swatches and put them all together like a little house for me. It was good to see all the colours together that way but I was still like a fish out of water. My husband loves everything we picked but it’s so hard for me to picture it all together in my head. In saying that though I came out with all the colours that I had already chosen before going in just some a different tone. We are going with blue charcoal for our cladding, pearl white for our window frames, vivid white timber surrounds, surfmist fascia, ironstone roof and gutter. And our front door is going to be ...... tea rose . My tile was my most confused choice going in but probably one of the quickest decisions of the appointment. I love the rectangle charcoal tile on the floor and white rectangle tile walls and I love a dramatic statement but whenever I go to a display and love the bathroom and find it so relaxing it is a lighter lappato floor and wall tile matching. So I’ve gone with that and then I can always add my own style in the mats and towels. I am still a bit umming and ahhing about this one. The picture looks much whiter than in person. Especially the tea rose door - that's super unique! We have ironstone (as a render colour though) and just be warned it does throw very blue. Our First Dream Home 36Nov 30, 2017 6:34 am Agreed, lovely choices there Sparrow! Dont think you can go wrong with any of that. Really like your exterior colours, they will make a nice statement. Kitchen choices are fantastic also Re: Our First Dream Home 37Dec 05, 2017 7:00 am Great choices loving them all especially your exterior colours can’t wait to see it all come together! Our lovely neighbour sent my husband this this morning. Our builder has sourced some free fill for us which should help us with our retaining walls. We are getting more and more worried about our retaining walls. It seems like it’s going to be a much bigger job than I initially thought. And allot more expensive :/ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Building our first custom dream home. https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?share_ ... are_type=t Hi All, we are starting to think of building with Masterpiece Builders in Victoria, has anyone had any feedback or experience with them 0 13603 1 7963 So it looks like we finally have some movement on site!
