Lots happening on site this week. Anything new with you this week? Our electrical rough in is finished. Plumbing/gas rough in was being finished today. Data rough in finished. Cabinetry measured up. The carpenters were delayed with the window delay so had moved onto another job. The windows were finally delivered yesterday. So hopefully they can come back quickly and do the windows and then move onto the cladding. Hubby and I went and did the internal wall insulation ourselves. We had no end of trouble with trying to buy the insulation. I went into our local Bunnings store a couple of weeks ago and told them I was going to be insulating all of my internal walls and I would need the 2.0 acoustic bats should I order them in and was assured they had loads in stock. My girls have been sick this week so I left it a bit late and only went to buy the insulation the night before. Our local Bunnings had no 2.0 in stock and the nearest store with some in stock according to online was half an hour way so I drove out there and they have “de-ranged” them so had none at all. They looked online and found other stores that did have them and they were all in the opposite directions from home. I decided to just get the lower R rating ones at my local store got to my local and they only had one bag(the system showed they had loads in stock) . Called another store half an hour away, towards our block, they said yep we have them in the two sizes you need in the 1.5. Next morning go out to store number three after dropping the kids to school they only have one of the sizes we need. I decided it’s a sign I should just drive out and get the 2.0, I called the store that store number two had said had the 2.0 in stock and they said they had heaps in stock I said can you please get someone to go out and check that you have this exact size and this exact size on the shelf. Someone went and checked and assured me there is enough there in both sizes in the 2.0. Drive 50 minutes there only to find they only have one of the sizes I need 🤬 in 2.0 and they have no 1.5 there so I can’t even just get that instead. I managed to get them to do the bigger size that they had in stock for the smaller batt price and we just bought all 580 batts. This meant though that MrSparrow had to cut all but two batts. So I think he cut 158 batts down to size and then we had to do all the cuts around the tapwear and noggins etc etc. So it took way longer than expected and MrSparrow is in a world of pain today as he did all his cuts on the floor either bending over or squatting. I should get an email on Thursday with a new update for what’s coming up in the next few weeks. I’ll head out again tomorrow and see if the carpenters have been, I haven’t been able to call past the site as much this week as my girls are quite sick. My next decision is going to be internal paint colour. I chose the Dulux blue charcoal with vivid white window trims for the external and miller mood with vivid white trims for the internal but the selections lady was very worried it would throw too much blue so we put TBA on our selection. I have had some sample wood that I painted sitting around the house to see how I like them at all different times of day. So I’ll have to make a definite decision soon. I think with my new floor, my new pendants and my all white kitchen I’m leaning towards a different palette of colours. Mr Sparrow will be so excited when I tell him 🤣. Or when he stalks my thread and reads this 🤣. Our First Dream Home Week 7 Cladding, Windows, Electrical, D 164Mar 09, 2018 1:08 am It’s great all your rough ins are finished and your moving forward. OMG I died when I read that, it is seriously something that would happen to me. I can’t believe the major run around you had and how hard it is for bunnings to get there god damn act together. Holy cow. Your poor hubby must have the sorest knees and back right now, awesome its all done and you went to the ends of the earth and back to source the batts. It seriously couldn’t just be easy though hey. It takes me 40 mins to West ipswich bunnings and 50 to bunnings at Springfield I would of throttled someone if that happened to me. It’s so exciting getting the weekly update, Gyprock won’t be far away now I looked up your paint colours, gosh your lucky to be able to chop and change around as you go. Have a look at dulux website, the sg6 tab https://www.dulux.com.au/specifier/colour/greys It’s apart of there colour atlas and super helpful, each colour is interactive but is also showing you its origins, the Miller mood is a pale grey/brown which might throw colours. It’s primary base is tresspass which isn’t a solid block colour it is a made colour with red and blues. For example if you put a deep brown leather lounge in the room your wall colour could throw a purple as the leather will have red in it. It’s a lot to figure out, I spent hours with the dulux paint lady and she was amazing. To avoid a grey throwing colours look at one that comes from a black primary colour. Grey pail is the equivalent, I took the advise from the dulux lady and ran all my greys off the one line with black being the base. Could not believe reading how much running around you had to do all because businesses can’t keep proper track of their stock levels I found paint colors really hard to choose. Sample pots are definitely your friend and I’d recommend getting some large plaster off cuts if possible and painting those to test the internal colours. Go large as colours can look very different on a small sample and paint at least two coats to get the full effect. Then yes look at them in different lights and next to your flooring choices to see how they work together. We chose Dulux Dieskau 1/2 for inside as many of the colours we tested were actually quite dark/ strong, especially on overcast days and at night. I have been looking at the colour atlas but had not picked up the base colour thing. Did you pay to do a selection with the dulux lady or were you just speaking to someone at the dulux store? I did go in there to get my sample pots but I didn’t really talk to them about my colour choices. I did see you can do a colour selection with someone from dulux for $200-300. Thank you for the pictures. You have great taste. Re: Our First Dream Home Week 7 Cladding, Windows, Electrica 167Mar 09, 2018 10:53 am Dani_J What a nightmare with the insulation SN!! And not only were the stock levels out but the people doing the checking for me were wrong. I actually can’t believe how calm I stayed lol. Dieskau was on my original short list, I might go back and have a look at that again. I’m going to ask the builder if I can paint some test patches on the walls. I’m not sure what they’ll say but no harm in asking I do have some off cuts painted in a few different colours just sitting around the house but I really struggle to see the big picture. Just love all the things we wanted in it which are a positive but also a burden! We have a much more spacious house but it feels like everything is further away! Haha. And not to mention all the cleaning... we bought our first robo vacuum. OMG... the dust it picked up. It should help keep the house 'tidier'. At some stage soon, we will probably add a cat to our home too! Family are mostly well. We just went through our first household illness for the year. Totally agree with allblaqk. I’m not sure if that’s just how it looks with plaster or if it’s actually small. It’s like a real house now The electrician decided it would be better to swap our dining pendant and fan because it would flow better and the spacing would be better. I hope our dining table isn’t going to be too close to our lounge room now. I’m terrible at estimation and imagining things that aren’t there. I lack creative vision. I bought some plaster home to do some test colours and take them back out to the house and see what we think. Our First Dream Home Week 8 Plastering 176Mar 16, 2018 12:41 pm Wow SN your going great, the cladding looks awesome I love that stuff. I’m sure once the gyprock is painted it will feel bigger, I found that to be the case for us. That’s good of your electrician to offer some help, I’m looking forward to seeing all you pretty lights hung . With the paint info I learnt from the bunnings paint counter lady, I used to go down and see her at 8pm at night when it was quite and she pulled out the big colours books and explained how all colours come from a base primary colour and how hues can affect your home. She was seriously fantastic. Re: Our First Dream Home Week 8 Plastering 177Mar 16, 2018 1:31 pm it's looking fantastic SN! hopefully once it's a bit further along you'll be able to visualise the space some more. I don't know if it will help you but I've just discovered this website called homestyler.com that lets you build your house plan in it, and then choose catalogue items like furniture and stuff to put in it, and then render the whole thing in 3D. I'm just going through the quoting process with G&P at the moment and putting the plan into this has really helped me see what the rooms will look like with generic furniture. I agree it's hard sometimes to see how the room will look when finished solely on imagination! I love the grandness of an acreage frontage! Thank you. My girls have just been sick as well. My middle daughter had four days of 39.8 degree temps which always worry me as she is 4 years seizure free from infantile spasms. I hope you are all well now. We have two cats, I think they’re great for the kids to grow up with. They aren’t too needy but play with the kids when they want and keep the kids company on the lounge. My husband is a dog person though and wants the cats to go missing during our move . Which brand did you go with for the robo vac? I think I will invest in one for the new place.
