I think you will be fine. Yes we will need stepped retaining at the front and standard retaining wall at the back, I have an idea for the back retaining wall, I can’t wait to sit down and draw it up (last day of school holidays ) we will build sleeper retaining walls and clad it in hard wood again I would say, it’s a lot cheaper and we diy so no labour costs. Could you guys diy? I wanted gabion retaining but the rocks cost a bomb Yes I do love your cabinetry it’s heaven, I know what you mean about the oak in the kitchen, we have oak to our island bench shelves and oak open shelves inlaid into the black cabinetry, I’ve given up stressing if it will clash with the floor. I don’t care anymore Hahahha I laughed about your loo. How cool are those canvass your girls will be so proud and in love with there new rooms, great choices Im worried it’s going to bother me for ever! Uncentred windows sounds like a nightmare to me . But I like to try and not stress about things I cannot control. “Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” But sometimes it really hard lol. We are planning to DIY our retaining walls as well, in woodlook concrete sleepers. Even DIY is really expensive. How does the concrete sleeper retaining walls compare to the way you are doing yours do you know? Last day of school holidays and night shift 6 of 6 then 4 days off for me, hopefully I can tick some more things off my to do list Re: Our First Dream Home Wk 12 Carpenter Fix Out&Window Fix 236Apr 16, 2018 9:12 pm sparrowsnest Tribe7 If the window doesn’t bother you then you won’t notice it, I was annoyed we didn’t add doors to our media room in our first build but I loved the house so got over it. Last day of school holidays and night shift 6 of 6 then 4 days off for me, hopefully I can tick some more things off my to do list It might bother you if you let it? Awful advise I know, as you said it’s beyond your control and I would look at the window as a reminder of what you achieved by designing your own home, everything doesn’t have to be perfect . I’ve picked the crap out of my plan and would love to add articulation to the front and change a few things but it’s not going to happen. I just remind myself it’s a beautiful home for my family with lots of space . Don’t stress it, just go and look at your glorious cabinetry Yes those concrete walls are more expensive, the sleeper retaining walls are a lot cheaper to build but a fair bit more work, our front retaining wall cost just $600 total including all the timber (the merbau to front dress it) the concrete, screws and drainage. Hope that helps Holy smokes night 6 you must be feeling like Dracula, bet you can’t wait for your nice sleep in and some shopping. Our old neighbour was a registra at GCUH and he would have his parcels delivered to me because he worked crazy hours, when I would drop them over of an late afternoon he would hiss at the sun in the door and the kids killed them selves laughing saying he was Dracula Our First Dream Home Wk 12 Carpenter Fix Out&Window Fix 237Apr 18, 2018 6:36 pm Thanks Tribe. We did consider doing sleeper retaining walls but have heard that they need to be replaced more often. Ours is 1.6 metres high. Omg. I’m not having the best luck. Got a call from the tile company and the supplier supplied the matte instead of the lappatto finish in our tile and wanted to know if that would be ok or would I like to reselect. I went to have a look at it and I don’t love it the texture of the lappato really makes a difference. They are happy for me to chose a different tile as long as it’s in stock. There’s nothing that’s really like my original tile and I can’t wait until more arrive as they think they are being discontinued. Do I try and go with the closest coloured tile that I don’t really love or completely change my colours. The tile I had was a light grey 450x450 that was going to go on the floors and walls. The selections lady does not think changing the colours to a dark floor will work with my coastal style at all. But I did a search on Pinterest and all of the ‘coastal bathrooms’ had grey floors and white walls. This is in the laundry, the blackbutt is our main area floor that will butt up against the tiles. Note the tiles are dirty I let my youngest walk on them and I walked in them to give it a real life feel lol. The black showed the most footprints and dirt. The white on the right is the closest to the style I was going for before and I would run on the floor and walls. I finally thought I was done with decisions. I actually love this look but MrSparrow hates it, actually he went as far as to say it was highly offensive to his eyes and various expletives. But pressing things first tiles. My personal preference and trying to go with the theme your after would be the grey tiles on the floor and the hexagonal tiles for the niche with white wall tiles. But as I said that's what I would choose. But how annoying you are having to re choose!! Like you, I agonised over every single choice an would hate to have to go back and pick something new. omg SN that artwork is to die for!! Esp the unicorn. arrghh your lucky children!! I honestly think with your off centred window, you will notice it to start with but you will quickly become accustomed to it and no longer see it. I’m hearing you about the retaining walls, we are either going to treat the timber to prevent rot or go with sandstone block retaining, depends on my budget. Sandstone is quite affordable if you get b grade it’s the machinery needed to move the damn blocks, if you have someone with a block cat or excavator you could go that way. I am with your husband blah not my cup of tea at all, Sorry ☹️. I loved them a little while back but I got over the trend, simple and elegant rocks my boat I have a option, can you keep your same white wall tiles but use grey or black penny rounds on the floor, then use the same penny rounds as a feature in your niche also it matches and is timeless and suits your cabinetry. Pricing, push back on the tile shop and tell them you want the tiles at the best possible rate, you have had to reselect at the last minute and can’t afford a big price increase. Honestly they pay squat for them so push back. I love the penny rounds on the floor they look incredible, they will go really well with your black butt flooring too. Remind me why I don’t have penny rounds on my floors?? Damn it.
