Hello there.
We are building in Gooseberry Hill, Western Australia and during our last site visit noted that the fireplace we had asked for in face brick has been constructed of internal bricks (from the clearances it has been set up for a standard plaster finish). We are not sure how this request dropped off the final contract but we are awaiting a response from the builder.
In the interim we have been considering alternative finishes to the fireplace which will house an inbuilt wood heater with recess below for firewood and extend to the ceiling. We really wanted it to be a feature of the living area so we are open to any ideas from readers on what else might look good.
Obviously we could stand firm and demand the fireplace be replaced as per our request but that will be time consuming and we wouldn't be against something different if it looked good. We were considering metallic look tiles (at the builder's expense of course) but would they still need the plaster underneath or could they be affixed directly to the bricks?
Any advice or suggestions would be gratefully received.
Regards,
MiAlJe.
