Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 05, 2017 9:34 am Hi, Did anyone get square set ceilings and can share how much it cost them? Would love to see pictures if possible as well. Thank you! Re: Square set ceilings 2Oct 05, 2017 9:59 am Ours were $14/linear metre. Worked out about $1350 to do entry, hall, kitchen/dining/family, bathrooms and dressing in a 28sq house. Was that just for main living and hallway or the whole house? Re: Square set ceilings 5Oct 05, 2017 1:49 pm Wow that looks amazing! Thanks so much for the info and pictures. Ours is 26sq house. I asked for square set to Living area (kitchen, dining and family room) including the hallway & foyer. It came back $2000 which I think is steep. :( I think they added their 27% markup ($540) onto the price and that's why it's so high... maybe? :-/ Re: Square set ceilings 6Oct 05, 2017 2:25 pm Rochelle-1212 Wilko91 Ours was $2400 for a 350sqm house. Was that just for main living and hallway or the whole house? Whole house. They did try to say later that it was only for the main living areas and master bed but I held them to their original quote. Can't believe how expensive mine is for main living and hall which is a bit less then half my house ($2000 - 26sq house). Thanks for the info! Re: Square set ceilings 8Oct 05, 2017 3:41 pm Here are a couple of photos that might or might not be of interest ... because we had our whole house square set. My wife in particular likes the look, and given how many other mods we were making, the full amount of ~$3300 seemed like a lot but we just wanted it. We didn't actually realise until afterwards that the reason we liked it was because there were no window sills, no door frames; everything "square set" is flush. In other words, there was a lot of extra plastering work over the whole house so they could implement this, and it also meant they used those metal door-frames that you see in units (ie. without any pieces of wood to bridge the gap between the plaster & the gap to the door itself). I don't have any photos here of this, but when a door is closed, it's flush to the wall on the side it opens from; for example our under-stairs cupboard door almost fades into not being there when it's closed. I'm hoping these photos might allow you to see what those door & window frames look like ... Can I just clarify, for your $3300 price you got the square set ceilings + the square set window sills + no door frames ect?? Re: Square set ceilings 13Oct 09, 2017 2:11 pm I have square set as well and love it - does it make anyone else laugh when watching the American Reno shows - "Oh Look Lovely Crown Moulding". When I think how much extra we paid to get rid of it Ah, you too! It could be a quality-of-workmanship thing, my German father in law had never seen "cornice" until he came here, and only found out why it exists when he started repairs on his house ... cornice where it does exist in Germany (and possibly the USA) probably covers a perfect join between wall & ceiling rather than an ugly gap. Yep I agree - When I pulled the cornice off the existing part of the house I can see why they exist here <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=62083">viewtopic.php?t=62083</a><!-- l --> Re: Square set ceilings 16Oct 10, 2017 2:34 pm Thanks everyone for the info. I got the lineal metre price off another client, which was straight from the same sales guy we also had. He prices it at $15 / Lineal Metre. My quote was exactly $1996.00 and when I worked it out off my plans it comes to $962 ?!! Now what to do... Re: Square set ceilings 17Oct 10, 2017 8:56 pm I would ask them the lm price directly then call them out on it! Ask them how many metres they have based the quote on because it doesn't add up! https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?share_ ... are_type=t Thanks mate. Yeah good points!
