Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 18, 2017 12:27 pm Greetings, I'm getting a really hard time to get my builder to include floor waste in bathrooms and laundry. 1. I'm advised it's uncommon to have floor wastes in bathrooms and laundry area 2. It's not mandatory to have floor waste in wet areas for class 1 buildings (residential homes) 3. The builder can becomes potentially responsible for water damage if the floor waste did not work as expected What's your thoughts on this? I feel like I'm asking him to split an atom on regards to this and it's really not something I can install later without significant expenses as the floor contouring is needed to ensure water is directed to the floor waste Re: Floor waste in bathroom and laundry 2Sep 18, 2017 12:59 pm Could be something to do with its a bit harder for him. As far as responsibility for future problems I would say that as long as their work meets the codes they will be in the clear. I know if I had a washing machine, or dishwasher hose burst I would want to have a floor drain! The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Anyway, when it came to meeting our site supervisor we spoke to him about it and he gave us the plumbers contacts and we added it through them and then spoke to the tilers to do the drainage and tiles. Building with Dennis Family Homes Re: Floor waste in bathroom and laundry 4Sep 18, 2017 2:32 pm My understanding was (in Queensland at least) that you require a floor waste in all bathrooms (as well as the standard floor waste in a shower) and in any water closet that has a sink and that Laundry isn't a building requirement. Our builder allowed us to add one into the laundry as they were already doing some, so one extra wasn't much more work. I find it weird that they would say no, since it is exactly the same as they would be doing in the showers at a minimum.. This is a very tight fit, I'm not sure if you'll be able to achieve what you've described. Would you consider accessing the separate toilet from the laundry?
