Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 15, 2017 7:38 am So all our frames are up and roof tiles on and we requested to raise door heights throughout the house to go with the high ceilings. Upon looking at the frame work we have realised that the front door height was never raised with all the others. The front door is extra wide at least but shorter than all the other doors and I'm worried it's going to look stupid. What's everyone else's opinion. Front Door Height with 2700 ceilings 2Sep 15, 2017 8:14 am Hailsm ...I'm worried it's going to look stupid. What's everyone else's opinion. IMO it will only look stupid from the inside and probably only if an internal door is nearby to establish a visual reference. Edit: It also depend on how sensitive you are to these situations. If you are a live and let live kind of person, then no big deal. If you dwell on these things, then it would be worth getting it changed. Re: Front Door Height with 2700 ceilings 3Sep 15, 2017 9:03 am We have a 2900 entry and 2590 ceilings throughout the rest of the house. We upgraded all our doors to 2340 high including the front door (just not the robe doors or laundry slider). For me, I would be looking at getting it changed, it will make the entrance feel more grand, and I would be really annoyed knowing that I could have done something about it had I not changed it. Having said that, you'll obviously be up for an admin fee, plus the upgrade fee for the door, and possibly need to go back through council or certifier, as it's an external part of the house. Re: Front Door Height with 2700 ceilings 4Sep 15, 2017 9:18 am What height is your garage door? If that's not raised it shouldn't look too out of place, especially if its a nice wide entry one. We have raised all door heights (including garage door, linen cupboards, bedroom wardrobes) but normal width front door and I was worried it was going to look very tall and skinny but I don't mind it. If you garage door is raised, and you think it will annoy you once you're moved in, probably weigh up and decide if you can take extra $$ out of the budget. Re: Front Door Height with 2700 ceilings 5Sep 15, 2017 9:40 am have you also raised the heights of your windows? we have 2700 ceilings and 2400 for all doors, garage doors and windows so all uniform. do you have front elevation pics which show what the front of your house looks like? Yes the windows were also raise up to the eave height as they wouldn't brick above the windows. I don't really have a good pic of the front as it is now because of fences etc, but I'll put up what I have Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ it looks like a normal height door in the elevation - what do you think of that look? i just did a quick google and found there a few ideas for decoration over the front door, like a wrought iron thing - might be a solution for you to make that look more purposeful (if that makes sense) https://au.pinterest.com/pin/492792384208969326/ Re: Front Door Height with 2700 ceilings 11Sep 15, 2017 1:02 pm arcadelt Hailsm ...I'm worried it's going to look stupid. Re: Front Door Height with 2700 ceilings 13Sep 15, 2017 1:22 pm It may hold up bricking stages because they won't wave able to finish the facade until the final door is in (and therefor lock up) but whether it stops the rest of the build depends on whether your builder continues with internal stuff. Maybe chat to you SS to see what would be help up if the front door was changed. He might confirm other stuff will continue and the overall build wouldn't be held up Re: Front Door Height with 2700 ceilings 14Sep 15, 2017 1:43 pm Nawsome Hailsm Nawsome have you also raised the heights of your windows? we have 2700 ceilings and 2400 for all doors, garage doors and windows so all uniform. do you have front elevation pics which show what the front of your house looks like? Did it hold up the entire build process? Yes and sort of yes. Our garage zero lot boundary was muffed up and the builder had to resubmit plans. They did that in July, and whilst the garage wall hasn't progressed, the rest of the house has. We're about 6 - 8 weeks away from handover (supposedly!) and the garage will get completed in that time frame. They did push on though with the rest of the house with no issues. Not sure whether your front door would stop them; that would be for the builder to tell you. Hi , Do you have some photos of you front door from inside and outside and any other internal doors for our reference please. we are in a similar situation and are trying to check how it looks ? thanks in advance. Hi Hailsm, just wondering what did you finally go with ? as we are in a similar situation where we can't increase the front door height but can go with 2340 for internal and alfresco doors and we are not sure how it will look if we go with standard height for front door and 2340 internal doors? if you don't mind can you share some photos of your front door (internal & external). Thanks Re: Front Door Height with 2700 ceilings 18May 01, 2020 5:05 pm Internal doors - you really do not need high internal doors, they need to be relatively lightweight and easy to open and also look proportional unless you make them all extra wide (e.g. 920+). Something slightly above standard, e.g. 2150x820 is a good height/width choice even with 3m+ ceilings, IMHO 2340 will look too high and un-proportional + added weight is not really helping. External doors, sliders etc., on the other side, have to be aligned with the height of the windows, so 2400 is a good option for 2.7m ceilings, as otherwise your windows will be a bit too low. 2.7m is a good option for 3m+ ceilings. Currently, new design trend are "invisible" doors: frameless doors which look they are integrated into the wall. They generally are 2150 mm in height. i imagine you also have another contract with an architect? and yeah, whatever other's said about special conditions and appendices 16 15980 Thanks mate.
