Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 28, 2017 5:27 pm Hello, Can anyone recommend an ICF builder in the Sydney area? We are looking at Zego, Thermacell, ECO-Block. All seem pretty similar, but we would like to discuss with a builder that has experience with using these methods. Thanks, Andrew. Re: ICF Builders in Sydney 2Sep 03, 2017 5:37 pm Hi Andy, I have built with both Thermacell & Eco-block. Both houses were really great to live in, quiet, comfortable and cheap to keep cool and warm so they are both great products. I won't make any comment on the builders I used. However, if I had to choose between the two, I would use the eco-block type, where there are basically two sheets of poly joined by plastic lugs, rather than the Thermacell type. Reasons are no voids formed when concrete is poured (as long as the builder knows what he's doing) and you have a solid concrete core. Pluse the eco product has plastic strips that plasterboard can be screwed to for easy plasterboard fixing. Personally if I was doing it again I would use Zego, but use their Fireform product, which is basically the same as Eco. All I can say is make sure the builder has a license, don't allow the concreter to add water to the mix. The rest is easy. Re: ICF Builders in Sydney 3Sep 07, 2017 12:49 pm Ji jparrie, Thanks very much for the informative response! I had a chance to check out a couple of job sites; one that was using ECO block and one that was using Zego's standard block. I went to the ECO-block site first, and the dealer was there and talking about how good the product was, explaining that the plastic ties moulded into the foam made it superior to other products because they would withstand blowouts very well. He was just trying to sell me the product I figured. Next day I visited a site that had just poured the first level into Zego blocks. There were several blowouts and voids that needed to be re-filled. If I was to go with Zego, I'd definitely stick with their Fireform product! Cheers, Andrew.
