Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 16, 2017 2:46 pm Hi all, We're building in a new estate a bit north of Newcastle and have our electrical selections appointment coming up. I just have a few questions that I couldn't find solid answers to elsewhere. My main concern is the exorbitant fixed price of additional electrical items, particularly data points and AV cabling. You'd think it would be more reasonably priced since the work is so much easier with no plasterboard! We've been told that I cannot access the site to do any work prior to handover, not even to pre-place draw cable or conduits. Has anyone had any luck negotiating this? I've read that it may be possible to talk with the site supervisor and/or sparky once building has commenced, but this is a gamble because it'll be after our electrical selections. Secondly, how difficult is it to run cables post handover in the steel frame? Responses I've seen vary from quite difficult to piece of cake. There is predrilled holes laterally which would be difficult to use behind walls, but I'm not certain of vertical runs. I believe there's notches rather than holes, and no noggins makes things easier? Any response is much appreciated. Cheers! Much harder on inside walls unless you know exactly where the holes are and if they go through all the framework.
