Browse Forums Building A New House Our First Home - Building with Valeco in Brookhaven Estate 201May 01, 2018 5:40 pm Waterproofing today, bricks so so close to being completed it’s not funny! Our beautiful corner less stackers installed and internal doors, architraves, skirtings delivered. It’s week 7 and so far the SS is sticking to his word.. We actually caught the brick layer on sight, well sort of, he had a huge rock stuck between his tyre when he was about to leave, so my fiancé helped him out. Funny older guy, bit of a hipster 🤙🏻 but praised him in his work, it’s only him doing the whole house, for one bloke he’s awful fast, and those mortar lines are so good! Thanks Kailie, we really are so pleased. I said to mark if we ever build again, I hope we don’t get disappointed if it’s not as good of an experience. But hard to beat atm lol Re: Our First Home - Building with Valeco in Brookhaven Esta 204May 01, 2018 10:28 pm Maybe my eldest son might get the space thing but my eldest daughter couldn’t find her way out of a wet paper bag 🤦🏼♀️. Okay so today we had.... Cabinetry (except butlers pantry overheads?) Front door delivered Bricks finished Internal doors hung Architraves and skirtings installed Anddd... a little hiccup with our front entry So, the brick layer was finishing up when we went today, he let us know about our front entry, he said the way they wanted him to build it would not be practical/nor sturdy enough and he’s not happy to put his name to the job, so he told them he’s not bricking on the top and left side of the front entry. He said the bricks on the left would have to be cut so small, one it would look terrible and two it would probably end up collapsing in the future. The thing that made me **** was our SS kept telling the brickie to ‘just do it, they signed off on the drawings’. Lucky our brickie has a bit of pride. So ‘apparently’ without our SS discussing with us yet, they are either going to clad it, the same as the front or blue board it and render it the same as the pillar. Now I have no idea what to do???? I don’t really want it cladded but will it look weird rendered? Anyway back to your door - you've been very very lucky with your brickie! i would render it if i had the option, and leave the cladding as a feature.. that's just me though. Everything looks awesome Re: Our First Home - Building with Valeco in Brookhaven Esta 208May 03, 2018 9:50 am Wow your powering along, so much done . I agree with Gr8ly I would be rendering that section to keep the cladding as a feature, I’m so impressed with your brick layer, what a top guy, to force your ss to come up with a better solution and not do a slap up job is unreal. See what you think of your over heads once the stone and tiling is done Re: Our First Home - Building with Valeco in Brookhaven Esta 209May 03, 2018 10:27 am I was going to ask if you could change the door so there is no sidelight but your last photo answers that ahah! That would be my preference as you could still have it bricked there. Otherwise agree with Tribe and Gr8ly - Render it The overheads will look fine once you have the countertops and backsplash on! Re: Our First Home - Building with Valeco in Brookhaven Esta 210May 03, 2018 10:41 am Thanks guys SS rang this morning, he wants to render it, so we agreed. I actually think it will look even better this way, than the original. 🤞 Re: Our First Home - Building with Valeco in Brookhaven Esta 211May 03, 2018 6:45 pm breebarter yay! i think so too Re: Our First Home - Building with Valeco in Brookhaven Esta 212May 07, 2018 10:20 am Just got back from our weekend away in Kiama down in Sydney and we knew they had done a lot on Friday before we left but I was so excited to go out this morning and take a look. The front facade looks so different! block is a bit messy, but SS has organised the dump to be collected this week lol. Eaves were completed, weatherboard on and wood feature on the facade, a little different to how i had pictured it though. Tiles have also been delivered to start tomorrow! had a sneak peak and I love them! So this is how the front doorway has ended up - not how it was explained but never the less I guess the top part will be rendered.. lol, and there is absolutely no room for even a quarter of a brick on the left hand side, so drafting were so off the mark! Your facade is looking great - the look will change again once they render and paint it. Re: Our First Home - Building with Valeco in Brookhaven Esta 214May 07, 2018 5:40 pm Looks great! I like the wood feature at the front I actually drove past today, we visited my parents - its coming along very nice and has great street appeal Re: Our First Home - Building with Valeco in Brookhaven Esta 215May 07, 2018 6:08 pm It's all coming together so fast and so beautifully! <3 I love how thoughtful your brickie was.. and the end result of your front entrance looks great! I can't wait to see all your colours come together once tilling/painting etc happens! Re: Our First Home - Building with Valeco in Brookhaven Esta 217May 11, 2018 8:46 am allblaqk Looks great! I can't wait to see all your colours come together once tilling/painting etc happens! That’s Stacey! Was all meant to start this week but we had a few hiccups! Bound to happen lol Re: Our First Home - Building with Valeco in Brookhaven Esta 219May 11, 2018 5:45 pm This week didn’t go as planned, however something was bound to go wrong sooner or later! Wednesday, tiling was meant to start, met the tiler on site at 6am, he wanted to make sure everything was good to go before he started. Everything was good, chose grout colours, and then we realised the wrong tiles had been delivered... and apparently we are not having tiles as the main floor, we are have vinyl floorboards? Wtf! We had been there for an hour, it was way too early to contact anyone, the tiler was **** at the colours consultant and I was now running late for work! Turns out, someone had ordered the wrong batch, and ultimately beaumont had delivered the wrong tiles. All in all, the SS had it cleared up in a matter of hours, Candice the colours consultant rang us profusely apologising and trying to rectify the mistake. Went out today, garage door is on, we are completely locked out, our butlers/laundry bench tops were installed and 3 new pallets of tiles were delivered 🤣 Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Our First Home - Building with Valeco in Brookhaven Esta 220May 11, 2018 6:20 pm even with the delay, they are moving mountains to get it done for you. We finally had our garage door installed today.. although still only plaster inside... So it looks like we finally have some movement on site!
