Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 25, 2008 1:35 am Hi all,
After nearly 12 months working with an architect to design our dream home we have found that the house designed is well outside of our budget so we have started to find a volume builder who has a similar floor plan and try this option. We went on the weekend to some of the local display homes and found that the Stanthorpe by Dennis Family Homes is a suitable design for the block. Our block is at the end of a hammerhead court and the best type of design we have found is a ranch style home as our block is long and narrow (853 sqm). I would be interested to hear from any others who have build this design as well as others who are or have built with DFH. I have done a search of the forum and have read all postings to date on Dennis and my impression is that they are good quality builder who seem quite efficient at the building process. I have also had a read of the reviews on the Best Builder website. Our initial meetings with the sales consultant at Dennis have been very positive so we hope that the rest of the building process will be this smooth. We are building in Taylors Hill (Melbourne North West). Regards NoviceBuilder Re: Stanthorpe 33 and Dennis Family Homes 2Aug 25, 2008 2:18 pm Hi NoviceBuilder,
We are currently in the process of building with Dennis Family homes (different home design) at Burnside Heights and our home should be finished in roughly 4-5 weeks (well end of October contactual end date). Our experiences with Dennis Family have been excellent so far. I found the sales consultant (at Taylors Hill) to be great, explained exactly what you were getting and didn't try to push or convince you to sign up for any upgrades you didn't want or need. The only thing we were advised to do during our color selections was to add a deadlock to the front door, because that wasn't standard with the home (which we did). The site supervisor we have been assigned is great, always takes our calls and if we leave a message we normally always get a call back within about 30 minutes. So far have no issues and things have been running smoothly. Regards, Buildingwest Re: Stanthorpe 33 and Dennis Family Homes 3Aug 25, 2008 3:02 pm Novice builder I am thinking that maybe you could take your architectually designed plans to an independant builder who could help you adjust the price of building so you can still build this house you have had drawn up.
It would be a shame to pay for these drawings and then not use them. I only say this because we were able to take our designs to a boutique builder and he was able to tell us what we could change to get to the budget we had in mind. Sometimes the smaller builders are able to help out with these sort of requests. Just something to keep in mind..
