Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 11, 2017 11:38 am Hi Everyone, If you have any quesions about your energy rating, or Low-E, Double Glazing, uPVC, Aluminium, U-values, SHGC, acoustics (noise), or anything to do with windows and doors, I will answer all questions, technical, aesthetic or practical. In addition, if you have problems with windows and doors, ask away. We have double glazing everywhere except one window, as it is a frameless corner window which Metricon refused to double glaze. It is west facing, master bedroom. I'd like to put both reflective film on the outside, and also double glazing film. First of all, is that possible to have both products together, and secondly - is double glazing film effective? Thanks in advance. Re: Low-E, Double Glazing, uPVC, Aluminium, U-values, SHGC 3Aug 11, 2017 12:19 pm What is a frameless corner window? Is that sashless? Butt joined? Double glazing film is of little use... can I see your plans & elevations at that window. (To meet 6 Star Rating). They have mixed Double glazing with Low-E to meet target. Edit: The Sliding doors are west facing. It leaves a black joint in the corner where the spacer bars overlap. Single glazed is neater. It is my honest opinion that low-E on its own is no substitute for plain double glazing. Reason is low-E works on radiant heat, and double glazing works on conducted heat. By far the majority of heat loss is through conduction. Low-E's biggest advantage is in reducing the solar heat gain coming into the home. But if the doors were facing North, then maybe it will help stop oveheating. Facing West, I would have double glazing. You will need to check with the energy rater if that would be enough, I am sure it will. Thank you Re: Low-E, Double Glazing, uPVC, Aluminium, U-values, SHGC 9Aug 12, 2017 7:28 am Hi Ed, I can't find this config rated on the Wers website. Is there a way to work out the uW, SHGC? 1. Dowell thermaline 6.38mmCP Clear/14mm_argon/4mmClear (West 3.6m XOOX) That, plus below 2 glazing upgrades were not included the Nathers assessment, which defaulted to standard single glazed aluminum with uW:6.7 and SHGC:0.7. 2. Stacker 6.38CP (North 3.6m XOO) 3. Stacker 6.38CP (South 3.6m XOO) Would the above 3 make any improvement to our nathers rating? Thank you in advance! Hi I don't see any comfortplus in the Thermaline range. I don't know what this was replacing, so can't comment on improvement. Converting from single glazed to low-E shows as a significant improvement in WERS, but I think it is more in the numbers than reality. Is it out of the question to put a stud in the corner and have double glazed windows?
