Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 09, 2017 10:24 am Hi everyone, I'm a long time lurker / infrequent commenter, but it's almost crunch time for approving our plans so I would love to ask for opinions before we pull the trigger! We are building in Peregian Beach on the Sunshine Coast, and knocking down/rebuilding our existing house so we're lucky to know the site well. It's a corner block with ocean views to the East and a long northern frontage onto a small cul de sac. We are in Noosa council so we have done a lot of work to follow the town plan and scrape in under the 8m height limit! We've designed to maximise our views as well as connecting to the garden/pool and path to the beach across the road to the east. We also wanted his and hers studies as we both work from home, and a separate media room that caters for movies as well as VR. It's a pretty long wish list The block narrows towards the west as well as having a slight rise, there is a small hill behind us which does a great job of sheltering us from the western sun and inland storms moving out to sea. Would love your thoughts on our floor plans! I mean, that entrance, is that a boardwalk over the pond?! And is that a roof terrace?! And a lift! Ok too many exclamation marks now. Looking forward to following your build and seeing the finished house Re: Custom Beach House / Family Home 3Aug 09, 2017 1:09 pm Hillsbuilds Alex, I think your house is going to be amazing! Looking forward to following your build and seeing the finished house Thank you!! You can never have too many exclamation marks Yes, it's a boardwalk I love a bit of design whimsy! And a roof terrace that should give us brilliant whale watching views (also very carefully designed so as to not be obtrusive from the street, or interfere with anyone's privacy). We are making a provision for a lift but are unsure whether we will have it from Day 1 or not. It started out as a dumb waiter for getting the laundry upstairs and kinds of evolved from there...! I'm hoping to post more in the future, we're working on the facades at the moment - I'm going to be extremely relieved when those are locked in... it's tricky having two fronts. Re: Custom Beach House / Family Home 4Aug 09, 2017 1:26 pm Definitely the provision for a lift is a great idea. We are working on our design currently (up to thermal assessment stage) and age/mobility proofing at least a section of the house is a must have for us. Just having it as a cupboard/laundry chute/dumb waiter until you need the lift is a good idea . Re: Custom Beach House / Family Home 5Aug 10, 2017 7:35 am Hi Alex, I have to agree with Hillsbuilds on this one. WOW. Your plans look amazing! How lovely to build a beach house and have ocean views. A bit jealous here, let me tell you! Looks like you have given this a lot of thought to maximise your space and take advantage of every aspect. This is the best kind of home to build and I'm sure the result will be amazing! We've been busy making design changes and this is where things are at now. The big change we made is on the first floor, we swapped the location of the kids' bathroom and guest bedroom. That gave us an opportunity to open up the guest bedroom to the rear garden, and to put a sliding wall along the hallway so when we don't have visitors, we can leave it open as a rumpus room Ground floor: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ First: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Roof: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We were ALMOST ready to lock these in... but we've had another great idea... stay tuned Hi everyone, Newbie renovator here, after some advice for combining our family room in the picture and the alfresco and make a larger family room.
