From a Construction Engineering viewpoint, I would choose Timber Frame & Brick over steel Frame & Hebel Thanks StructuralBIMGuy. We started making a spreadsheet, but it just confused us even more and we left it there incomplete We checked what's included and it's all standard builders range. We were offered packs/offers with upgrade options and have taken up some of them. Can I ask why you would recommend Timber and brick over steel and Hebel? We thought getting a steel frame would be a plus as we don't have to worry about termite protection every year and it's much stronger if I understand correctly? We had never heard of Hebel before going to the builders and they said it's better insulation and would look nice as it'll all be rendered. Having a corner lot, we though it might be nice to have the rendered Hebel look. Re: Please help - MJH or M?? 7Jul 26, 2017 2:39 pm Agreed. The MJH. You don't seem to gain anything from the extra 3 squares in the Metricon. The only advantage to the Metricon one would be if your backyard faces north. Is it a truss roof or Pitched Coupled roof (Timber rafters)? 2. Are you in a coast zone subject to corrosion? This is the link for their steel frame brochure (Supaloc made from Truecore steel). We get 26' roof pitch and it's a steel truss. http://www.mcdonaldjoneshomes.com.au/si ... lowres.pdf 2. We're not in a coast zone Thanks Re: Please help - MJH or M?? 10Jul 27, 2017 1:58 pm hunter_home you can ask for extended warranties and engineering solutions that preclude the above. As an engineer that does structural repairs..I just don't see them in the first instance? Whereby, later maintenance & repairs become very expensive or impossible I am simply highlighting problems that do exist. you need to make informed decisions that are based on facts, data and not media personality endorsements. HTH StructuralBIMGuy, many thanks for this. Will ask them about extended warranties and other issues you've highlighted. Do you have any advice on using Hebel? Re: Please help - MJH or M?? 12Jul 29, 2017 10:47 am hunter_home I suggest you discuss this with a Structural Engineer Hebel tech manual and also get them to design & supervise the hebel blockwork as well Most West Australians Won't have a bar of Autoclaved Aerated Bricks a case of once bitten (before) twice shy. Here are some tips on selecting building materials 1. Display homes look great when new..Builders flip them in a couple of years, for obvious reasons 2.Check out ex display homes after say 10-20 years... you'll see what I mean 3. If you are building in severe environments ie coastal, industrial etc, always consider durability 4.The cutting edge in new material engineering is sometimes the bleeding edge 5. There are reasons why we still use traditional building materials, namely they have withstood the test of time goodluck Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 3629 i had the my concreters concrete right up to the fence. I have pits all along my path, so the water tends to drain away from the house and into the pits.
