Hi everyone , we want a awesome big outdoor area. The alfrescos the builders do seem really pricey. Anyone gone with a pergola company to do a verandah and alfresco instead of builder ?

We've been looking into costs of a pergola and there are so many variables of materials, designs etc which affect the price. A wooden pergola is much cheaper (we've found 1/2 to 1/3) of the cost, but then there are more maintenance costs and durability. Type of roofing can change too if you want colorbond or a polycarbonate etc, or if you want flat or gable etc. Also check for wiring/ lighting/ concreting etc as tht is all included with the alfresco, but another cost to the pergola. Stratco and softwoods (some of the comapnies we have looked at) have a diy pergola too, so they can cut and manufacture the product, but you can install it yourself so save on labour costs.
