Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 09, 2017 8:39 am Looking for some suggestions on our concrete driveway colour. My roof tiles and horizontal gutters are momentum. Fascia, down pipes and garage door is evening haze. Bricks is managum. Front door is timer clear coat and window frame is surmist. I am lost with driveway. Re: Driveway colour 2Jul 09, 2017 8:49 am Hmm, most driveways tend to be blue/black in colour. Are you thinking of coloured concrete or exposed aggregate? I wanted to avoid the dark driveways, because when its hot they raise the temperature around your house. But in the end I went with my builders recommendation to do a blue driveway, I kind of wish it was darker now... I was told darker driveways tend to hide stains (like oil) better. Here's mine: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Driveway colour 3Jul 09, 2017 9:28 am I tossed around with this idea too. We looked at exposed aggregate concrete but after looking at the samples at the concrete place our builder uses and my partner commented it reminded him of the 1970s that idea was tossed in the bucket. I was keen to do some coloured concrete but he just wants plain concrete. We getting paths down around the house too. Re: Driveway colour 7Jul 10, 2017 9:26 pm Aloenyx: I am going for coloured concrete. My concreter recommended charcoal because of my monument roof tiles and gutters. Was yours painted on or mixed in? I've heard both sides of the debate of which is better but decided in the end... it's a driveway. I believe your finishing is called a "cove"? Re: Driveway colour 8Jul 10, 2017 9:44 pm I'm not sure, but mine is apparently colour through (mixed in) with a brush finish (I think this is same as Cove). You can sort of see from the side shots, its plain but the top 1cm has got the colour mixed in. A lot of my neighbors have painted, and it doesn't look nice to me. I think charcoal is a pretty good choice. I have plain concrete down the side of my house, here's a pic to see the difference in colour. Contraction joints are at 3m max for a 125 slab. Thanks 0 10926 |
