Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 04, 2017 2:43 pm Okay guys, I really just need a quick answer about Colorbond roof insulations. Is there a certain rating of insulation that needs to be installed under a Colorbond roof. I have heard of anticon blankets, sarking and all the rest. Is there really much benefit? Or can I get the same result with my whirley birds. I'm sure there is a forum about this somewhere, but I can't find it! Thanks guys Re: Colorbond Roof 2Aug 04, 2017 2:47 pm breebarter Okay guys, I really just need a quick answer about Colorbond roof insulations. I'm just wanting to try and reduce energy bills Re: Colorbond Roof 4Aug 04, 2017 3:48 pm There's technically no amount of insulation that *has* to be installed, but you'd at least want sarking to drain away condensation and prevent it dripping onto the roofspace/ceiling below. And if you're going to do that then it's only a comparatively small step to proper insulation blankets. The advice that's around on the effectiveness of whirlybirds is mixed at best. At the very least, it seems that most people don't install enough (just one or two doesn't provide enough airflow to effectively purge a typical residential roofspace), and they really should be considered as part of a proper roofspace ventilation design and not just "plopped on" as an afterthought. On the other hand, the benefits of insulation are well established, and you don't have to worry about roof penetrations or maintenance issues. Colorbond Roof 5Aug 04, 2017 6:32 pm Quick answers sometimes don't give you the information that you need. That said, algernon has provided a nice summary. If you have the time to invest (alongside the monetary investment you are making in the house), have a look at this site: http://www.yourhome.gov.au/passive-design/insulation Re: Colorbond Roof 6Aug 04, 2017 9:51 pm Anticon is used in our house due to bushfire rating. You need sarking for a couple of things the condensation, heating and cooling so whirley birds won't help with condensation. Your house roof does not show rusting other than some surface rust on the flashings. In my opinion you dont need to replace or paint the roof other than treat surface rust… 1 10595 You should pressure clean your roof first and make sure the paint you buy also is anti mould. 4 21088 Hi all, Our boundary perimeter fences need replacing (3 sides). From everyone's experience, what would you install? Timber lapped and capped OR colorbond? Thank you. 0 3229 |
