Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 06, 2017 3:20 pm Hi, I wanted to get some thoughts on some design ideas I am considering. For a number of reasons, we need to build the façade of our new two storey build in a more traditional style. However, our own style is contemporary minimalist, and this is what we would like to achieve internally. Is it considered a design 'sin' to have a traditional exterior(think conservative version of hamptons style) and modern inside, with things like open steel stringers staircases with glass balustrades and modern kitchens and bathrooms. Obviously the answer is that if it's my own home I can do what I want with it - but it won't be the forever home so I need to understand how others perceive this. Any thoughts or advice would be great. Re: Traditional Outside and Modern Inside 2Jul 06, 2017 6:12 pm I've seen many examples of this where covenants exist around streetscape, especially in heritage areas. Provided the facade you build is not some tacky pastiche I think it should be fine. Re: Traditional Outside and Modern Inside 4Jul 12, 2017 11:59 am I'm doing this, too, with some traditional flair inside but with modern twists. The exterior is recycled red brick, with a gal roof and white mortar w/verandah. Interior is very minimal and clean - grey, timber, white colour plan. Downlights, modern bathrooms, modern kitchen. I'm very excited to see it, basically, and think as long as it all ties in you'll be fine! traditional gable roof facade - Have you did the dark and light gray color combination in facade with gray stone in facade… 0 1825 I recently went through a similar renovation and move scenario when updating our family home. We also swapped some rooms around and tackled a major… 2 3712 nothing to do with salespeole. you'd do well to read and ccomprehend the post before bashing away at the keys with some negative comment again. 4 5048 |
