Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 27, 2017 7:04 pm Hi everyone. I have a question I want to put out there to all of my fellow builders. We have some good friends who are really excited by our build. They are sharing in our journey and for that we are so grateful. At this stage I have to admit that I have stepped onto our site to have a look at what is going on. I think the temptation is too much as we really want to see what is different. However we found out that our friends are actually visiting our site without us present and taking themselves on a tour through our house on the building site each week. I know that they mean well but at the same time I don't feel too comfortable with it. I still feel that it is our house and I am not sure if I appreciate people going through our site without us there. I might be overthinking it but what do people think about this situation? Is it right that your friends walk through your building site without you there (even though we know no one really should be on the building site anyway!). Your comments would be greatly appreciated! Re: Site Visits by Friends 2Jun 27, 2017 7:12 pm Maybe have a chat with them saying you don't feel comfortable visiting your site. Also that its OHS issue for them to be on a building site without the permission of the builder who is in control of the site? Re: Site Visits by Friends 3Jun 27, 2017 7:57 pm You could always just say that the site supervisor has said people can't visit the site as it's an OHS issue. Re: Site Visits by Friends 5Jun 27, 2017 8:21 pm ![]() You could always just say that the site supervisor has said people can't visit the site as it's an OHS issue. I would do this ^^. We have friends and family drive past regularly but I don't think any of them go inside the fence, I would be a bit upset if they did. Re: Site Visits by Friends 6Jun 27, 2017 8:28 pm I have taken family and friends there, thankfully its far away so no one would go down there without me. But, I would be uncomfortable in your situation. I'd probably tell them the builder had mentioned about people being on site, and could they stay off as you dont want to be in trouble with the builder.. ![]() Re: Site Visits by Friends 7Jun 27, 2017 9:56 pm Makes me glad we haven't given anyone our exact address; I'd be miffed if people were checking out my house without me. As above I'd just say that the builder asked them to keep out for safety reasons. Re: Site Visits by Friends 8Jun 30, 2017 6:53 pm Just tell them the site foreman spoke to you about unauthorised people on site, and that it could invalidate your insurance if something was to happen to members of the public on a private building site. Also the issue of trespass comes into the conversation. One brick at a time he said... Re: Site Visits by Friends 9Jun 30, 2017 9:16 pm Your builder should be securing and locking up site fence so no one unauthorised can get in. Your friends are taking too much liberty and if you don't stop it it may get worse and you won't get any respect. You can be diplomatic but firm. This is your investment and you are the captain, act like one. It is good to know that i am not alone in thinking this. I will be having a quiet word to them to let them know that their visits are not wanted by our builder. Fingers crossed that they take it well.
