We had had 1x conduit to each bedroom, 2x to the study, 4x to family room and 6x to theatre (4x front and 2x rear side walls for speakers). Luckily Mr Doe is a licensed electrician even though he hasn't worked professionally as a trade for many years but he'll use our conduits after handover to run network cabling to all rooms, to run all the cabling for the theatre concealed inside the walls (speakers, projector etc), to hide all the wiring for the wall mounted TV in the family room inside the walls then to install an intercom system. We'll also be installing CCTV again but the cabling for this will run through the roof space so don't need conduit for these. Depends on what your needs are technology-wise, I doubt many people would have need or want of a system as extensive as ours will be but Mr Doe is a tech head and loves this stuff plus we'll only being paying for the physical cabling and equipment some of which we already had from our last house then all the time and labour will be done ourselves. Follow our build with Express Two Storey (Ventura Group): http://tinyurl.com/jlykgph Thanks so much for that mrsdoe! Definitely making more sense now... Yea I think we would just need them for wall-mounted TVs and maybe an alarm system somewhere in the hallway? You're definitely very lucky to have Mr Doe as an electrician.. I've seen some of the prices for installing all of that and I nearly had a heart attack! Yup we got a quote of $13k just for the network cabling, intercom system and cabling for 4x CCTV cameras (not even including the cameras, they were to be supplied and installed after handover) so I said no way, I will be Mr Doe's assistant and help him pull the cables through and he can do all the work himself for the $10-11k it will save us! I'm not sure what you'd need for putting in an alarm system, maybe worthwhile contacting a couple of security companies and talking to one of their technicians and asking them what provisions they'd recommend putting in place during construction to make it easiest for them to do later?
