Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 04, 2017 7:22 pm We are in the process of sub dividing our block into large acreage blocks. Once registered (hopefully no later than Jan18) we will be building. We have not decided on a builder just yet. We have found a design that we like from McDonald Jones, but would make a lot of changes to it, if that is what we go with. McDonald Jones haven't won our hearts yet. We stopped in to talk to one of the consultants more than a year ago and had loads of questions, as you do and she was quite rude to put it bluntly. We have also talked to Bazdaric Homes and we are very impressed with them, but whether we can afford them is yet to be decided. If anyone out there has the name of a great builder on the Highlands I would love to know. Over the next few months we will try to nail down our plans for our house so that when we have our land registered we can have our plans immediately in to council. It is so time consuming just trying to figure out what we want, or more to the point what we might be able to afford. This will be our second time building. Our first time was about 25yrs ago and we used a very small builder that was a master carpenter. He was amazing and our house was amazing. We stayed their for almost 17yrs and I still miss it. The process was fantastic and we are really keen to replicate it again. Can't wait Re: We're going to build on the Southern Highlands, NSW 2Jun 04, 2017 8:07 pm A few builders I've seen locally that look good: Bargo Colonial, Green Homes and another one I'll have to check the name of Build thread http://tinyurl.com/llgc7yk Re: We're going to build on the Southern Highlands, NSW 3Jun 04, 2017 8:24 pm Hi we are building in the SH too! Not with a master builder tho just a major company. Have you looked at Hume homes or Barrington Re: We're going to build on the Southern Highlands, NSW 5Jun 04, 2017 10:37 pm The other builder was Top Line We've built at Exeter on 5 acres Build thread http://tinyurl.com/llgc7yk Re: We're going to build on the Southern Highlands, NSW 6Jun 05, 2017 8:47 am Thanks Bigblock7 I will check them out. I'll have a look at your blog. We are located at Colo Vale and once we finish our sub division we will keep about 9 acres surrounded on three sides by virgin bush. Re: We're going to build on the Southern Highlands, NSW 7Jun 05, 2017 5:46 pm We are building in hilltop with Beechwood. Still waiting on our subdivision to be registered as well. House plans are ready to go to council. Re: We're going to build on the Southern Highlands, NSW 8Jun 05, 2017 7:27 pm Needamoneytree, You're only 5 km's up the road from us. Any idea when you are going to be registered? We have been told 6-8mths but that was 6 weeks ago and nothing has happened yet, so I am thinking it will be more like 12mths. I think it is a case of "Hurry up and Wait". I will try to work out how to follow your story so I can keep up with how you are going. By the way can you tell me how long it took you to work out what you wanted for your house. I am feeling a little overwhelmed with all that we have to decide on. We want to be ready to go to council no later than Jan18 crossed fingers. Re: We're going to build on the Southern Highlands, NSW 9Jun 06, 2017 10:32 pm Yes indeed very close! We purchased our land in September and has been I. Council now for 10 weeks so who knows when it will be ready. Still has 6 weeks with land register office after it is approved by council. So it will get close to a year waiting for land to register. We have been looking at houses for a year. We found one close to what we would like august last year by beechwood and we have been corresponding with them since then. We received our first draw plans two weeks ago. So it has been a long process. Only because we want everything particular way and we are in now rush with land not been registered yet. I like doing all this before registration I feel like I have time to make confident decisions. Re: We're going to build on the Southern Highlands, NSW 10Jun 07, 2017 6:43 pm 12 months, wow. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Are you going to be on sewerage or septic, We have had no end of dramas with getting the septic system we want, so I am just curious as to what people are doing if they are on septic. Hopefully you will be out of council very soon. Re: We're going to build on the Southern Highlands, NSW 11Jun 07, 2017 10:16 pm Thank you loshde, we hope it all comes together in the end. We are on sewerage thankfully. Hill Top was one of the 1st towns in the area to be put on sewer back in the late 80s believe it or not. Re: We're going to build on the Southern Highlands, NSW 12Jun 08, 2017 9:57 am I know that a large part of Colo Vale is on sewerage now. We are on the edge of town and classed as rural so we do not get to connect to sewer, which would make our life easier if we were to be able to. Re: We're going to build on the Southern Highlands, NSW 13Jun 10, 2017 7:42 am Happy house hunting. The Barrington home on display in Renwick is beautiful if you get a chance to look.
