Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 03, 2017 10:51 pm After reading about a billion other builders threads I thought we should add our own to the mix. Late last year my wife and I bought a nice little block of land In the Newenham development in Mount Barker. After shopping our plans (attached) around we have decided to go with coast to coast homes (who don't have many reviews online so this could be useful to anyone researching them) We paid our deposit 2 weeks ago and are awaiting the soil tests and formal plans etc. We are super excited so if you have any questions about our plans please give us a shout! Thanks! They have display home in Aston hills that should be opening in the next couple of weeks I think. Your build looks awesome BTW, that is one massive house! You must be excited! I like the office location, out of the way of the rest of the house, and the main bedroom with the WIR and ensuite area, and access to the alfresco Building a Fairmont Custom in Seaford Meadows Our Build Thread Re: Tomcats build in mount barker 6Jun 05, 2017 4:23 pm beautiful plan - i love the wir and ensuite and the courtyard area Re: Tomcats build in mount barker 8Jun 06, 2017 2:51 pm Loving the look of that floorplan, very straightforward and clever use of space! What do you think of the Newenham development? We were considering it for some time, but ended up going with Springlake for the value. Re: Tomcats build in mount barker 9Jun 06, 2017 10:16 pm Thanks for the kind words everyone! We're looking forward to getting started! We chose Newenham as we really liked the aspect (we overlook the creek and what will be the linear park) and we really liked the ethos the developer seems to be taking. As it's such a new development though all we can really do is hope we made the right decision! The office will actually be a piano / reading / library room rather than a traditional office. The facade will be in a Californian bungalow sort of style. We are planning to put a Japanese maple in the courtyard and make it a sort of biological calendar, a way to link us to the changing seasons etc! Re: Tomcats build in mount barker 10Jun 06, 2017 11:35 pm Yeah I really loved the vibe of the development, but found Springlake suited us better (a bit further on in the development, a bit more laidback about style and such (especially compared to other developments) with builds and choices being "merit" based rather than check-boxes...) and were able to get a similar aspect (we overlook a nature reserve which will not be built on in a quiet culdesac). I think that the Californian bungalow look with a maple would be beautiful - to be fair every thought of Californian style makes me think of the other Tomcat's build (not sure if you are going for that style though or the classic Californian bungalow type!) Looking forward to watching your progress! Re: Tomcats build in mount barker 11Jun 07, 2017 11:52 am I do understand what you mean with the encumbrances. When we got the design guidelines it made a stop and consider if this is really what we wanted. But at then end of the day we realised most of the things in there are design facets we would get regardless of the encumbrance (2.7m ceilings, landscaped front yard etc). So long as they keep the standard throughout the development and don't let it slide then it "should" keep the whole thing looking good. Time will tell I guess! Re: Tomcats build in mount barker 13Jul 19, 2017 8:36 pm Soil tests were ok but today we ended up with 32k for retaining walls and 11k for soil removal! Way more than we expected for one of the flattest blocks in the estate! Getting some other quotes (if anyone know a good retaining guy in mount barker let me know!). Fingers crossed it comes back a bit better. Re: Tomcats build in mount barker 14Jul 20, 2017 11:19 am Btw, for anyone in Newenham our soil test came back h2-d - we had already allowed for that specification in our quote but might be indicative for some of you Cheers. Re: Tomcats build in mount barker 16Oct 05, 2017 6:27 pm Floor plan looks great! We had a look at Newenham and its lovely, im sure you wont regret that decision. I need to get some retaining quotes also, it is so ridiculously expensive! Let us know if you find someone good and fairly priced please 😊 If what you describe is correct then the brick wall has been dry lined with villa board. That basically means that the villa board is glued to the brick wall with… 3 8311 Thank you so much everyone. This all makes a lot of sense. I guess when you talk to a builder who butters up everything to look very polished, you get to start believing… 7 17602 Hi, did you get any money from insurance? if you did, does it match what you've already paid the builders? 3 9565 |
