Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 30, 2017 5:56 pm Hi guys, We are currently constructing in Victoria of 2 double storey townhouses. It appears our structural engineer gave a wrong description upon one of timber beam schedule. Initially he wrote "2/294 x 11 GL18" and my builder quoted me with a fixed price to construct the house (of course all other beams). Then the truss company came back saying that wrong beams description and he change into "2/294 x 110 GL18" - and I have been charged over 2 grand as a variation because of this. For those who are experts in construction, what do those numbers mean actually? I tried to seek compensation from the engineer because of this - do you guys think he is wrong somehow? I just tried to google for over last half an hour - at least I know GL18 is a hardwood beam. From number 11 to 110 is a huge jump and I think I've been charged because of this. We are near completing of lock-up stage and the builder shown to me those beams are massive. Those beams are supports to first floor. Re: Timber beam schedule - confuse (HELP) 2May 30, 2017 11:17 pm Albash, That's the size of the beam, 294mm X 110mm the 2 in front of the 294 means 2 beams side by side, gl is Glulam and 18 is the stress grade. Firstly I would asked what beams the builder quoted on, as there is no such size in a gl18 (11mm) 50mm is probably the thinnest glulam beams go so I think they are full of it to start with. If the engineer made a mistake that's not your fault and I would be telling them that they have to pay for that. It works a lot different in WA and sounds like you employed the Engineer directly? Hello everyone, After some suggestions and ideas about how to put a concrete path around the drop edge beam area on our new build. We are required to have a concrete path… 0 12874 The distance between my DEBs varies from 4.1m at the narrowest to 8.1m at the widest. 5 27316 |
