Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Hickinbotham build adelaide 2May 28, 2017 9:28 pm Hey Joey, we aren't building with Hickinbotham but we are building with their other branch Statesman, what design did you settle on? So far we have been really happy with how things have gone. Just make sure when you do colour selections you triple check and check again everything. Our slab is due to be poured tomorrow and I only noticed yesterday that the colours of our kitchen are around the wrong way. Eiiik! Re: Hickinbotham build adelaide 3May 29, 2017 4:04 pm hickinbotham build here - signed contracts 3rd week of march and got my selections appointment this thursday Building the Torquay design with a few modifications at Penfield been impressed so far with the feedback and communications from both the sales and now the selections reps always quick to answer my questions - and esp with selections as have had numerous emails about costings for different things and ideas and always had a reasonably quick reply. Re: Hickinbotham build adelaide 5Jul 05, 2017 2:31 pm lovisa We are building with Hickinbotham sighned for build 20 April, signed land and deposit 20 May, got our Master plans 28 June, had selections on 3 July, now waiting for soil tests and councils to finalize things we are building in the north and we went with the province alfresco design. Councils can be faster than expected. mine took about 4 weeks to reach final approval stage and i imagine the hold up now is the change i made to the floorplan - made the change back on the 5th June but i know it was still with drafting on the 19th as I had a follow up call from builder then. If not for my late change my entire process would have been very smooth. Assuming my change needed to be submitted for final approval which would have had to wait for the drafting to be completed - plus any modification to engineers report etc that it caused. The provence Alfresco is a nice design and was one of the 3 i shortlisted - along with the orchid Re: Hickinbotham build adelaide 6Jul 05, 2017 2:35 pm Hello we had the same 3 on our short list I think. we did not make a lot of changes to the house except for the vanity in the ensuite, we changed it to the same as the layout of the mkii. how accurate was your footings after soil reports to the initial quote that was given to you? Re: Hickinbotham build adelaide 7Jul 05, 2017 2:38 pm I had to add another $430 or so. footings came back about 1k cheaper but then had additional soil to remove and a longer than standard utility run. So I was very impressed with the footings estimate as you hear so many stories about it blowing out the cost estimate was about $17600 or so and ended up just over 18k i settled on the torquay just so i could be more versatile in the use of the front living space, Study, home gym, reading room and potentially a TV room when kids are using the main TV. Couldn't fit all that in a 4th bedroom/study Re: Hickinbotham build adelaide 8Jul 05, 2017 2:52 pm Sounds great we have been quoted $22400 for footings hope we get good news and its reduced or stays the same. have to admit I am pretty stressed after reading all the horror stories of the footings blow outs! our initial quote does say that it is quoted above standard so hoping for the best the rest of the quotes had been fairly accurate except the heating/cooling we got another $1400 added and not to mention the flooring... we got a initial quote of $3780 but was told at selections it was severely under quoted and would not even cover the base range which would be between $6000-7000 (urgh, lucky we did not wanted a lot of upgrades and our main thing we wanted was okay floors) which floors did you go with ? there is so many to choose from!i will load up photos a bit later Re: Hickinbotham build adelaide 9Jul 05, 2017 3:01 pm my aircon quote was about 1.5k under but then i did opt for a dearer unit as well. flooring was another 1k underquoted - i am just going with a basic vinyl timber look and will be doing that myself after handover intending to upgrade it to something nicer in another 5 to 8 years - concreting and stormwater i am doing after handover as well and been quoted about 9k for the 2 combined but currently chasing after additional quotes In hindsight i should have left them as part of the build price for simplicity i approached it form the angle of if its easy to add or change after handover i left it. if its hard or expensive to do after construction then i got it included - think i ended up with 28 double power points and 9 dataports along with upgraded ensuite fittings - also added nib walls and builtins and re-arranged kitchen to include a pantry and increased size of linen cupboard etc. - all hard to do after handover what flooring did you select that was underquoted got pics of all my selections etc in the below linked post Re: Hickinbotham build adelaide 10Jul 05, 2017 3:13 pm we got a quote on vinyl through out (not even basic vinyl sheeting fell in this range of the quote) then at selection we got 3 quotes (one for carpets to bedrooms and vinyl planks to the rest, one for laminate planks, and one for just vinyl planks) we ended up going with the vinyl planks through out which is $6 more than the laminate and $1600 more than having the carpet in the rooms. we thought if we do vinyl planks now and wanted to upgrade it later it would be easier and give us a bit more time than the carpets. (and with having vinyl now the floor preparation will hopefully be good for what ever nicer floors we want to do later) we went with the "titanium colour" looks geyish Re: Hickinbotham build adelaide 11Jul 05, 2017 5:30 pm your comment made me recheck my flooring quote and realized i had been given 2 quotes from my flooring provider and had opted for the extra 1.5k vinyl planks myself - but haven't been down to actually check out the ones they quoted on yet. hopefully this weekend Re: Hickinbotham build adelaide 14Jul 06, 2017 12:52 pm it looks great, after much discussion, we decided to contact the agent that did the original quote for us on the flooring for the house, and she was shocked with the price our consultant gave us for the flooring and insisted her quote is right and checked it again. our initial sales consultant is now contacting the selections consultant to see what is going on with the high price we have been quoted and also asked for a pqm price for the products. ( we thought it was the vinyl planks but turns out to be a vinyl material for $9128 for our house, which is just crazy. so hoping for a good outcome and reduced price for our flooring ) Re: Hickinbotham build adelaide 15Jul 06, 2017 1:09 pm I think that with vinyl sheets and pattern matching it causes a price increase as from what i gather they put in the pqm and compare it to the floor square meters to be covered but with pattern matching you get a bit of wastage hence price goes up - with planks you don't get that wastage. Re: Hickinbotham build adelaide 16Jul 06, 2017 1:12 pm yes that is what we are thinking and said we will rather go with the planks and pay the extra to get a good quality(better than sheeting) than to pay that for the sheet, hopefully will hear soon what we will be doing Re: Hickinbotham build adelaide 18Jul 07, 2017 8:42 pm Wow $5000 for vinyl? Have you considered getting external quotes from places like Carpet Court? Im building a similar size to you, and for nice wide laminate and carpet to bedrooms its $6500 total. Ive just given the quote to the bank and they've added it to the home loan. Building in Springlake Mount Barker SA Re: Hickinbotham build adelaide 19Jul 07, 2017 8:49 pm With carpet it would be less around $7000 (also depending on which carpet we take) but with vinyl luxury plank through out its $9100(25yr warenty). for vinyl sheet it was $5000 (to do with patern matching and instalation being more complicated than the plank) prices depending on the colours/designs taken. It also depends on which vinyl sheet quality you take econo/budget sheet $4000(12mnt warrenty) , mid sheet $5200(5yr warenty), and so on. For alergie reasons we cant do carpet all. Did get some external auotes with installation we are not much better off for the one we want. We got the vinyl plank that look and feel like wood (with the texture) we considered a couple of options and would only save about $100 to do on our own then the headace to manage times to install and tradies, we decided to just go with the builders Re: Hickinbotham build adelaide 20Jul 07, 2017 11:00 pm lovisa then the headache to manage times to install and tradies, we decided to just go with the builders This is why i put my aircon with the builders as to much hassle to get fitted afterwards. Thought want be to much hassle doing flooring and concreting afterwards - I hope but provided my bank with my flooring and concreting quotes to get included in the valuation for the mortgage but builder quote and carpet court quote for same product was only $50 different so note to bad ended up with a higher grade vinyl plank that has just been reduced in price (so i was told) Building a new home, and looking for a garage builder (home builder not contracted to do this). Someone to build steel garage (double), colorbond, including supply and… 0 1937 Thank you so much everyone. This all makes a lot of sense. I guess when you talk to a builder who butters up everything to look very polished, you get to start believing… 8 2249 thank you! do we need to get this or our builder before we commence new build on the block? 2 4419 |
