Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 11, 2017 7:48 pm Hi Everyone!
Like everyone else I've been lurking other threads for a while now - I've been waiting to get out of the admin stage before making a thread and boy did that take a long time! My husband and I put down a deposit on a block in December, in Providence, South Ripley. Its a beautiful petite 424m2 park front block. I has to be a double storey house as per the estate covenant, which we have had custom drawn up for us. We are building a 4 Bed, 2.5 Bath & 2 Garage house. It took ages for everything to be approved, about 7.5 weeks in council waiting! It went quickly but not quick enough. We picked colours on Tuesday and should have a start date next week (fingers crossed) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ 7 comments ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: First Home - Custom Design in South Ripley QLD 2May 11, 2017 8:11 pm COLOURS! Was so nervous about this, had a rough idea in mind but I'm no style guru! External: Roof: Colourbond Basalt Gutters/Downpipes/Fasicas: Colourbond Basalt Front Render: Surfmist Front Weatherboard: Surfmist Door: Timber stain Garage Door: Timber Look We will have a timber feature over the front door as well, in the facade. Luckily we can change these, our builder is super flexible and we still have to lock in the flooring so we will go back and look over it all again anyway. We have the above bricks (PGH Rice), and I wanted them to be similar in colour, but I think Surfmist will be far too white. I really want different shades of grey throughout. Internals/Kitchen: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Left is carpet, top right is the stone bench top and cupboards for the kitchen, laundry and bathrooms and bottom right is the laminate we are looking at. We get to choose the laminate and wet tiles, so that is on the TO-DO list - Was going to do a light-mid grey. Forgot to get a photo of the wall colour but may change it anyway. And thats all for now Re: First Home - Custom Design in South Ripley QLD 3May 11, 2017 9:13 pm Omg so glad this just popped up!!! Is this a new thread? How exciting!!! But i'm happy Re: First Home - Custom Design in South Ripley QLD 7May 12, 2017 10:27 pm We went down there last weekend and looked at the display village. Some awesome builds and some d0dgy work too. Returned with about 4kg of display books. Must cost them a packet to print them in quantity. Are you thinking about building in ripley or just having a look at homes there? Re: First Home - Custom Design in South Ripley QLD 11May 16, 2017 8:31 pm Yayyy can't wait to see pics of the cut Re: First Home - Custom Design in South Ripley QLD 12May 16, 2017 8:56 pm Congrats! Site cut is a good first step! Hopefully many more and quicker rather than slower! Your home design looks great and yes, looks like a swell upgrade from a 2-bedder! Might take a peek at the estate next time we are down Ipswich way. Have been seeing all those poster boards about Providence for ages each time we head through to Brisbane. Anything at this point is an upgrade, I'm so excited to have room, I don't know what I'm gonna do with it all! Definitely drop in! Its a beautiful estate, and there's a nice cafe and a waterpark/playground for the kiddies. Fleabee, I will post a photo of the cut tomorrow night Husband is going to go after work and get some photos. I don't get home till after 6pm so no point in me going through winter. Re: First Home - Custom Design in South Ripley QLD 14May 17, 2017 6:27 pm Congratulations on the commencement of your build! Hope all goes very smoothly for you. If you are still considering shale grey - my newly completed roof is shale grey - it can look quite white in some lights, and this may or may not be good for you. We have decided to change the weatherboard to shale grey, but leave the render. Just so it's not one big blob of colour when you look at it. Look what happened! Does it make you start comparing? Hehe. Does it make you start comparing? Hehe. Haha, no actually - Since ours is a custom drawn floorplan, we will be unique! There is plenty of beautiful double storey houses in the estate though, and I find myself admiring them when we drive though. Re: First Home - Custom Design in South Ripley QLD 18May 18, 2017 10:21 pm I am still looking at different houses in the papers or around town or when we come through Ipswich or Brisbane etc.. and think.. hmm what could we do differently... and there are many beautiful house designs on H1 as well. For interests sake, what was the process for your custom design? Did you draw a vision yourself and have a draftie convert into a proper house or use an architect or engineer to make sure it was sound? Our broker put us in contact with another broker friend of his, that works with our builder and an architect. We had a meeting with them all, showed them a floorplan we liked and told them what we did and did not want to have in our house. The architect drew up a design for us, loosely based off what we showed them but our needs in mind. He nailed it, we didn't change anything! We met at the builders private display home, and they had it built to show exactly the standard. So no hidden upgrades or anything, which we really liked. They are very straightforward, and are also very flexible too which is awesome. Re: First Home - Custom Design in South Ripley QLD 20May 19, 2017 10:25 pm Thanks for that. So it could go any way. Did you have to pay a fee for the architect at all? Or does the builder do that?
