Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Who deals with NBN when building new house -owner or bui 3May 05, 2017 8:48 pm pauldab Depends on what is in your building contract*. Our builder (Metricon) ran the conduit from the pit to the house and another from the outside building entry point to the internal fit-off location both with draw strings. after completion I just placed an order with my preferred ISP and they arranged the NBN contractors to contact me for access to install the fibre connection and internal box. Be aware that there is a compulsory $300 charge for new development connections that the ISP passes on from NBNco. This charge covers the cost to install from the street to the connection box inside the house. Regardless of the chosen ISP, this charge applies so if you can get an ISP who will do the remainder of the connection free of charge then you won't have anything else to pay. Timeframe was about 4 days from placing my order with the ISP to the call from the NBN contractor to arrange a appointment. I was given the choice of 8am, 11am or 1pm timeframes and chose the 8am to ensure I got first call! Tech turned up at the right time and did the install in about an hour so I didn't miss out on much time at work. I had already received the router from the ISP so after connecting that to the NBN connection box the service was running that evening after I got back from work. *there was a clause in the building contract that we would be contacted by Telstra to be offered options for NBN connections after handover, but the clause was written that this was a no-obligation offer. We were never contacted by Telstra and even if I was I wouldn't have bothered with their overpriced and under-provisioned services. Thanks Pauldab for detailed information. Now I understood the process. 1 11004 Sorry but you have a crap builder. Probably too late now. For our last build I only spoke to builders who would allow me easy access (at no cost). I used my own sparky… 10 9829 |
