Browse Forums Building A New House Re: HGWA in Calleya Estate 222Oct 30, 2017 9:32 pm I have meetings for the rest of the week, so hopefully I can see something on Saturday otherwise it will be next week @Madora Dreamer Re: HGWA in Calleya Estate 223Nov 01, 2017 8:54 pm I got an email today with the finishing timeline. Tiling will finish next week followed by plumbing and electrical finals. During this stage measurements for garage door and robes. It is expected that all finals will be complete by the 17th of this month. I guess that means PCI will follow after that. @Madora Dreamer Re: HGWA in Calleya Estate 224Nov 01, 2017 8:57 pm Goodness, that is fast!! Our tilers are still plodding along. Floors almost finished and should be starting on wall tiles tomorrow. HGWA are still saying 20th December for us but if they pulled their finger out I reckon they could have it well and truly completed by the end of the month. My patience is running very thin now! Re: HGWA in Calleya Estate 225Nov 01, 2017 9:48 pm Don’t forget I am only having wet area tiles, the rest are being done after handover and he told me it would take 2 weeks as it’s such a big area. They will be done when the tiles arrive in January. I doubt I will be in before you but you never know. @Madora Dreamer Re: HGWA in Calleya Estate 226Nov 02, 2017 8:33 pm This stage seems to go so fast. Your tiles look really nice, esp against the kitchen cabinets. And love the doors/windows letting lots of natural light in. We were given as estimated date of 1 Dec for PCI. They have been really fast in the last month and my house should be "finished" tomorrow! The builder inspection is tomorrow and PCI soon. Plan to see the house over the weekend to check that the garage door is in and floors done. Some of our window finishings won't be ready until January as they have a 12-14 week timeframe from measurement to installation. Re: HGWA in Calleya Estate 227Nov 04, 2017 1:43 pm 2 weeks into the "Great Tiling Enterprise" and we have all floor tiling complete, kitchen, laundry and scullery done apart from grouting, half the main bathroom done and no progress yet on the ensuite. Looks like it will be another week before it is all finished. *sigh* Being in before Christmas is not looking promising at this point.

No tilers on Monday as they had another job to finish off. No tilers on Tuesday as they went off to Ascot for the Melbourne Cup. Finally today we have a little action.
They are tackling the ensuite. We have chosen a different pattern of tiling. I saw a picture of it online somewhere, liked it, asked for it, paid extra for it. However, at our tile meeting they hadn't read the variations properly so were planning on doing standard horizontal, stack pattern. After I enlightened them, the tiler said "But we've never done it that way before!", "No one ever does it like that" and "It will be more difficult to make it look good". I enlightened them again as to the joys of stepping outside the box, stretching their skill set and trying something new! Anyway, after a little grumbling and side ways looks and raised eyebrows they agreed that I was in the right (it was in the contract after all) and that yes, they could manage it. So here is the beginning of it. It really isn't that far outside the box and I do think it is going to look great once finished and grouted... Don't know what's so hard about it? Isn't it just a tile turned on it's side? Yep, same tile as the main bathroom but laid vertically, stretcher bond pattern. The tilers seemed very perturbed by this notion, but they are old traditional Italian tilers. They are meticulous though so it will be laid beautifully despite their personal misgivings! I am very impressed with their skill at lining up all the joins so it all matches. Very clever fellas! Re: HGWA in Calleya Estate 232Nov 10, 2017 7:10 pm End of week 3 of the looooong "Great Tiling Enterprise" and we are still not complete.
Most of the ensuite tiling is complete. Just got the main bathroom to finish and then all the grouting needs to be done. Probably done by middle of next week. In good news, the garage door went on today. And I believe the electricians and plumbers will be back middle of next week to do their final fix. Having a meeting with the kitchen cabinetry company on Monday to discuss the 'fix' they have done to the island bench. We are still not particularly happy with it. This is what we asked for (shadow line effect)... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This is what we got... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This is the 'fix'... Got some more photos? As to the 'fix'... they added an extra panel to the inside of the overhang, then covered up the joins. However, there are now very visible black edges where they covered up the ends, where there are now 2x panels (double thickness). And there is a very visible join on the underside. I am thinking of asking them to take it all off and just put a full height panel back on the ends. Forget the shadow line all together as it seems to be too difficult for them to manage well. What do you think?? Does it look as clunky as it seems to in my eyes?? On your bench top it looks like the stone is thinner or the same width as the shadow line which is why it doesn’t appear as balanced maybe? I guess it is up to you and what you can live with. @Madora Dreamer Re: HGWA in Calleya Estate 236Nov 11, 2017 12:13 am Hmm, not sure how I feel about it. I mean it's definitely a better outcome than before, but still not quite there. I think this is one of those things where the cheaper alternative isn't a viable option :/ Find my build thread here: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=88694&f=31&p=1729530#p1729530 Re: HGWA in Calleya Estate 237Nov 13, 2017 7:04 pm Had a meeting with our site supervisor and the owner/manager of the kitchen cabinetry company today. Site supervisor is amazing and was even more critical of the job done so far than we were! He let them know in no uncertain terms that it was all unacceptable and had to be fixed to our satisfaction. And he picked up some other details that he wasn't happy with. Filipe is a god amongst site supervisors! So, we have decided to forego the shadow line as I have no confidence in their ability to give us the streamlined look we wanted. It will just be a straight panel on the ends. This will be clean, crisp, neat and tidy. They have a couple of other minor defects to fix on the island bench too. Apparently this will all be fixed this week. Tiler should be finished tomorrow. Yippee! Then last fixes will occur; plumber, electrician, final painting, installation of sliding wardrobe doors, insulation, aircon and paving. I believe our fencing is going in this week too. Filipe confirmed handover on or before 20th December. PCI should be early December. So, so close now! And well, well over paying mortgage and rent! We will still have to get the painter in after we move but he is going to just work around us.
