Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 25, 2017 11:04 am Hi All, Essentially my build was going smooth until my neighbour started his site prep. I am at frame completed stage now. Neighbour has cut deep to level the land and its 1m from my slab. My builder advised me that it unsafe to processed with brick until my neighbour builds a retaining wall. However, this neighbour is very slow in responding to anything and I have no timeline on when I will have the retaining wall. It very frustrating as my builder is raring to go and no work will be done on my site until neighbour builds a retaining wall. What could I do to speed up the process? I am building in Sydney, can I approach council any particular government body? Thanks for any tips on this, much appreciated. Cheers Seems strange Are they concerned about the safety of the brickies with a fall so close? In that case surely putting fencing up on your fence line will solve the problem? I haven't had or heard of this situation but it sounds like your builder is being lazy? Brickies work on double storey homes all the time, just requires appropriate scaffolding. majestic35.weebly.com Re: Retaining Wall Issue 5Apr 25, 2017 1:29 pm It's to do with adding weight to a compromised structure. It's understandable that your builder doesn't want to continue until the area is retained and supported, but retaining walls and neighbours are complicated, and the legislations and engineering specs differ from state to state. This is an SA law handbook, NSW will be slightly different but I would be googling your options. Otherwise you could ping one of the guys on here such as: structuralBIMguy http://www.lawhandbook.sa.gov.au/ch31s04.php Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that. Have a good day 4 5179 thanks Chippy, i hope they have applied sealer but i am doubt to be honest, so i am gonna do this job after handover. 8 16269 Thanks for the insights, that makes perfect sense, and yeah, I will be leaning on the experience of the excavator operator entirely. 6 16141 |
