Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 21, 2017 2:10 pm Hi everyone! Another RedInk-er joining the fold over here. We are in the beginning stages right now. We signed PCQ about 3 weeks ago and we're waiting for our plans to be drafted and contracts to be finalized. We found a piece of land down in Mandurah, very far from where we hoped to build, but more affordable in the end. We have to ask for our first extension on the land at the moment and it's more than a little stressful. I'm still waiting for the "fun" part of building to start. Re: Down the rabbit hole - another RedInk build 2Apr 21, 2017 2:28 pm Welcome to the forum, I am building with Redink in Madora Bay. Look forward to following your build. @Madora Dreamer Re: Down the rabbit hole - another RedInk build 3Apr 21, 2017 3:16 pm Hi we are ith Redink - building in Chittering so miles away from you. We are at Siteworks currently - our time with Redink has not been without its challenges but hoping the worst is behind us - just keep an eye on your timelines. If you think it is taking longer than you think, call and follow up - ours fell down a hole there twice - we are currently about 4 months behind schedule. . Re: Down the rabbit hole - another RedInk build 4Apr 21, 2017 7:39 pm Thanks for the welcome. I saw your thread, Madora Dreamer and look forward to following your build too. When is your appointment with the interior decorator? scrapbizz, we looked North at first and tried to buy in Mnt Helena, then looked at Chidlow. In the end, we decided to look South because of how much site works add up when building in the Hills. I look forward to seeing your build progress too. What happened for you to fall so far behind schedule? Re: Down the rabbit hole - another RedInk build 5Apr 21, 2017 7:59 pm I am away on holiday so will book in when I get home next week. I have picked some of the stuff anyway, my daughter went through an interior designer phase until she got bitten by the photography bug so does that instead. If you are south and your sales consultant is from the display home in vista check your amended plans very carefully. I had no idea what I was doing but some mistakes were made on amended plans such as walls not counted in the quote, then I had an amended quote that missed the previous amendments. Having said that he was fabulous at communicating with me, would email or phone straight back if I had a question, even late at night. @Madora Dreamer Re: Down the rabbit hole - another RedInk build 6Apr 21, 2017 8:14 pm oh Rabbitburrows - how long have you got LOL? Seriously it would be pages of describing the errors/delays and other things that have got us here, but we sat down with their GM who was very approachable and we are on the right track now. Mainly I think staff changes and a lack of attention to detail in their corporate HQ - It has been just a 'comedy of errors' but finally (says she fingers crossed) we are on our way. I am just so jaded, hoping to get my spark back once we get a slab down, as the gloss has gone off it completely. If that happens I will start a thread. . Re: Down the rabbit hole - another RedInk build 7Apr 22, 2017 12:39 am Madora Dreamer If you are south and your sales consultant is from the display home in vista check your amended plans very carefully. Our consultant is actually from the display home in Wandi. Mandurah is completely new to us, but it's where we could find a decent sized block without selling a kidney on the black market. Did they amend your quote before PCQ or after? Re: Down the rabbit hole - another RedInk build 8Apr 22, 2017 12:46 am After, a $3,500 mistake. They said they credited me back $1500 in goodwill. Call me a cynic but I think he just said that to make me feel better. Everyone told me to argue as it was his mistake but I wanted to aim for a smooth build and figured they would get the money back elsewhere. I have had three amenments since then, one was to remove my shower windows out of the shower and into the bathrooms, the next was to swap the theatre window with the master so the theatre had a strip window and the main a full size one and finally I added an outside shower. The only cost was the shower, the rest were free. @Madora Dreamer Re: Down the rabbit hole - another RedInk build 9Apr 22, 2017 12:46 am scrapbizz oh Rabbitburrows - how long have you got LOL? Ah man, that doesn't sound good. If you want an ear, I'll gladly listen. The fun and sparkle has gone for me too, and we haven't even signed our contract yet. I think it got ruined very early on for me. We looked at plans with two other builders and the plans were just awful. When we sat down with one of them to discuss what we wanted in our home, he was so condescending and dismissed everything we wanted as fads. I walked away ready to give up on building altogether when we we stumbled into the RedInk display a couple of doors down. I'm still not overly impressed with the fact that you basically get NOTHING in the display homes as standard inclusions. It just seems like such a bait and switch. The builder's choice tiles had me close to tears. OK, depressing rant over. I really hope things get cracking for you soon. Re: Down the rabbit hole - another RedInk build 11Apr 27, 2017 7:24 pm Thanks for the support and encouragement, but it doesn't look like there's going to be a build. Our real estate agent claims that the sellers won't give us an extension on the finance for the land and has relisted our block. We dusted ourselves off and looked at another block, only to be informed that we're looking at an excess far above $60 000 for site works. This is the third piece of land we've looked at after the first estate agent said our offer was turned down, but instead she never presented the offer to the sellers. I'm sick of dealing with nonsense and trying to force this build to work. I can't believe what a bunch of unethical liars the estate agents in Perth are turning out to be. Oh wow, that's awful, I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope things work out for you eventually. Re: Down the rabbit hole - another RedInk build 13Apr 27, 2017 10:50 pm How disappointing for you! I am so sorry that this has been such a rotten process, I hope you find something else soon! @Madora Dreamer Re: Down the rabbit hole - another RedInk build 14Apr 28, 2017 2:31 pm Oh my- I so so feel your pain. Would you consider the Chittering Valley, there are some good blocks out this way? Or you probably need a big rest from it all. We know a good agent if you want one who specialises in this area. All the very best. . Re: Down the rabbit hole - another RedInk build 15Apr 30, 2017 8:34 pm Thanks scrapbizz. We looked at Chittering at the beginning of our build, but it's prohibitively far from my husband's work and we had to draw the line for time spent traveling each day. I saw on another thread that you're doing your own site works. If you don't mind me asking, what is the total cost of your site works and septic system, etc? Who are you using? Re: Down the rabbit hole - another RedInk build 16May 01, 2017 8:49 am I will send you a message - I am about to lave for work so will do this later tonight. I totally get the travel, we had found some lovely blocks out near Brigadoon but too far for me to commute to work. Cheers . can’t tell from the photo, a tie down rod will be 12mm, is it a steel beam? he should be able to work it out 1 4423 Thanks for your advice.
