Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 20, 2017 11:53 pm We are looking at constructing a retaining wall close to the house (around 200mm from the bricks to the inner edge of the retaining wall) which will allow for a pathway to be created between the wall and boundary fence. This pathway will sit around 400mm lower than the house at natural ground level with the retaining wall only required to support fill adjacent to the slab. Due to piers under the slab which extend around 600mm deeper than the retaining wall the zone of influence for the weight of the house should not impact upon the wall. Confirmed with engineer and certifier and they do not see any issues with this. Has anyone done something similar and if so can you provide photos? The alternative is to retain adjacent to the fence however we are not keen on this for two reasons: 1) reduced effective height of the fence - neighbour wants fence on boundary with retaining contained fully within our lot. 2) will create a void between the wall and fence which will collect debris / rubbish and weeds. Re: Retaining Walls 2Apr 21, 2017 7:56 am If its on the weather side you would do better to retain adjacent to the fence and away from your footings Sorry no photos..But I can recommend to others the correct engineering details in AS2870 Residential Slabs & footings Section on dropped footings. And the best time to deal with this is before you sign building contracts Why? 1. The price/quote will vary considerably before and after contract signing Like 3-5 times 2. If you choose not to drop the footings as a post contract variation then the problem is further compounded later on when you take possession and then nobody cares it becomes your problem 3. Sloping blocks with incorrect FFLs & GLs are a problem for neighbours and Councils..easy/big money for builders as Post contract variations and a nightmare for owners at handover Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Render your bathroom walls, two opinions versus the one, makes you wonder. 3 6062 The spacing of the studs looks pretty large especially for a load bearing wall. 3 11116 Nope, only on the inside, I've literally has my ears to the brick outside and can't hear anything. I can sort of 'reset' the noise by pressing firmly on the studs. This… 10 11764 |
