It's more a case of "has NBN been switched on yet in my area?". If it has, then yes you should absolutely get an NBN box in your house... if you are in an NBN-active area then they can't connect you up to the old copper network, you have to go onto the new fibre network. EG if you live in an NBN area, and you want a phone line or internet in the house, it must be NBN. If you're not in an NBN area yet, find out when NBN will be coming to you. Once it comes to you, 2 years from the date it's switched on, all copper phone lines and old ADSL modems won't work anymore, they all transition over to NBN.
