Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Metricon Winchester 28 42Jul 22, 2017 5:20 pm Visited the studio this arvo for a refresh before selections next weekend. We've narrowed down a few more details including bathroom cabinets (natural walnut) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Now just contemplating wall colours... Re: Metricon Winchester 28 43Jul 22, 2017 5:25 pm I like the walnut D I have soft walnut for my bathroom vanities, a little bit lighter but similar. D Ooh, what sort of garage door are you thinking? I wish I could have afforded the wood look. D Ooh, what sort of garage door are you thinking? I wish I could have afforded the wood look. haha yes, your vanities were my inspiration We picked up a pile of timber style colour cards but really liked the walnut one, then found an actual cabinet on display and were sold. No idea with garage. Simple hopefully (and inexpensive, we dont have a huge budget). I like the classic look with the rectangles but I guess we'll see what we decide next week. Re: Metricon Winchester 28 45Jul 22, 2017 7:11 pm Picking bathroom vanities was actually the hardest part of my colour selection. I picked my floor tiles, bricks and kitchen cabinetry before my appointment. And I picked the White Shimmer benchtops fairly quickly, was between them and Ocean Foam. So I had floors, benchtops and white wall tiles selected for bathroom, and we took a heap of wood sample cards over to my tile, and none of them worked with the tile (all were really pale).. I had picked up the soft walnut and put it back... eventually we went back and got it, and it was perfect. D I really like it, though I must admit I do like your darker colour too!! I sort of wish I had a few more darker colours in the house, I tried a bit too hard to keep things light. At least the carpets are dark Ooh, hopefully you find something you like. I found exterior pretty easy. I didn't get to specify things like style of garage door or cabinetry doors.. or tapware, it was all standard.. the first time I knew what I was getting when it was on the house XD but overall happy with how it turned out. I had a tiny budget back then, now I would do things a little different. Re: Metricon Winchester 28 46Jul 22, 2017 7:16 pm What sort of benchtop are you having with the walnut? It's a pretty verastile color, could easily go with a light colour or a dark.. Oh, I didn't notice your wall colour dilemma... do you have a style your trying for? I like the lexicon, the others are nice but I'm always wary of creams or anything that might throw yellow (my parents house is all brown, orange and khaki green... I hate warm colours now, red, yellow, orange... I'm all about grey, blue, white XD) Re: Metricon Winchester 28 47Jul 22, 2017 7:25 pm aloenyx What sort of benchtop are you having with the walnut? I think lexicon quarter is the ceiling colour for M, and I definitely want a warm wall colour. I hate the cold colour of the place we're in at the moment. Leaning towards the Natural White. Re: Metricon Winchester 28 50Jul 24, 2017 2:47 pm I've been eyeing off the colour scheme of a display home we visited, so M have kindly sent me the full colour schedule for the house. Most were what I thought they were (ie Monument gutters etc, black windows) but I was keen to check out the render colours. This house is also the brick that I want (Ironstone) so figure its probably good to go with a tested colour scheme. I've got a list so hopefully I dont forget any of the little changes I want, though I feel like theres something I've forgotten to write down... Still no idea on garage door colour or driveway colour, so open to suggestions. We want to avoid paying for an upgrade if possible. Re: Metricon Winchester 28 53Jul 28, 2017 10:22 am Oh yaaaaaaaay one of the most exciting parts You'll have a great time I'm sure. As for the garage, is a wood look included in the selections for free, or is that an upgrade cost? If it's not free, then using your inspiration facade pic above as a guide, I'd stick with either close colour to the rendered pillars, or even something as light as the upper paneling - garages can be hotboxes so depending on which way your garage door faces you may not want a door colour which draws in the heat. I assume it's extra. So a light colour maybe? Re: Metricon Winchester 28 55Jul 28, 2017 10:53 am Yeah, I reckon, but depends on whether you will be having a lighter colour like the paneling in top left corner of your inspo pic a few posts above this one? If so, then yes I think a garage door in that colour would work in well, and wouldn't get as much radiant heat as if you went with something as dark as Monument. But also, which direction will your garage door face? If it's east or south then it may not be an issue. Our facade is a lot simpler than that one; will be light colour upstairs, brick downstairs, and a darker render on the portico. Block faces east. Monument colourbond roof. Re: Metricon Winchester 28 57Jul 29, 2017 3:55 pm Well that was quite a big morning. Despite having made most of our decisions ahead of time, it still took us four hours to go through everything. Hate to think how long it takes for people who don't do their homework. We had a fantastic person to work with and she made it so easy for us. Like ⋅ 1 comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The biggest shock of the day was the driveway. We'd paid for the driveway pack but unfortunately hadn't noticed in our estate guidelines that a standard concrete driveway was prohibited (and I've read that thing front to back a few times). Exposed aggregate is required So $4k later, we've selected the Labassa option, however that will also include a front path. It seems that accessing the house via the driveway is standard but I was really keen on a dedicated front path and it added minimally to the cost. Re: Metricon Winchester 28 60Jul 29, 2017 5:36 pm aloenyx Like your choices DDD Wow, shame about the driveway... though I like the dedicated front path option too XDD Thanks I think we did pretty well, though obviously between the driveway and render, came out quite a bit poorer than we had anticipated. I'm surprised how many people just go with the driveway and not a dedicated front path; the diagrams they had prepared for us showed access to the portico via the drive but I really had it in my mind that I want a front path with white roses up each side. Husband says its just because it's what I'm used to but he's happy if I'm happy, and the extra cost was minimal compared with the aggregate overall. Really pleased with how everything looks, now just have to wait ages to see it all come together! Hmmm, I have checked your past posts and it seems that you are in NSW, not WA as I had thought.
