Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Sekisui | Burbank - Cedarwood1828 (frame inspection) 101May 02, 2017 5:48 pm I loved ceramics at school - so much fun! I use my crafting time for sewing at the moment (mainly clothes for the kids and myself). Being creative is definitely a great stress relief - makes you live in the moment, and focus on something that gives you joy! Re: Sekisui | Burbank - Cedarwood1828 (frame inspection) 102May 02, 2017 7:13 pm The teapot looks great! Can't wait to see it finished! The classes sounds like a great idea for stress relief. Although i would think it's even more stressful if I accidentally stuffed something up. Re: Sekisui | Burbank - Cedarwood1828 103May 02, 2017 9:11 pm ehhc So I spoke with our SS yesterday. Told him about the new issue, said he'll check the door frame first which is fair enough, but didn't seem to like the fact that I check the build, pick up on these wrong item issues, report them to him & asking for a fix. I said that I didn't wanted the 2 incorrect items installed and rather they commit to fix the problems now rather than leave for us to stress about and deal with later down the track. I don't think that is unreasonable...if they were going to commit to replacements, why install the wrong items just to rip them out later? Relationship seems to be going downhill but I stood my ground and just said its not my fault that the wrong items are ordered. And if the wrong bricks are delivered for example, I would again highlight the problem. I don't understand why this is an issue. Thought it would save them the hassle of fixing down the track... Makes me wonder if they really will fix the problems, or do they think we will roll over raising the white flag. Looks like they started on roof trusses today and might be done soon. Just having a quick flick through your thread (had previously "Watched" it, but just realised I wasn't receiving updates). If I may make a couple of suggestions relating to this post a couple of pages back..... 1) If the SS has problems with you pointing out things that are wrong directly to him, ask him if he would rather you did it as per the contract and notify head office instead for them to then chase him up over. 2) When you find something wrong and notify the SS (or head office), try to make sure you are just pointing out the issue and are not directing how it is to be fixed. For example, if the door is wrong, leave it up to them if they want to wait for a new one and then install it correctly the first time or if they would rather install the wrong one and then replace it later. The issue you have if you tell them "how" (as opposed to just "what") is that they can come back later and potentially claim for delays and/or costs. For example: "We wanted to close up that part of the house so we could start on something internal, but the owner told us that we had to wait for the new door to arrive. That took 2 weeks and so we couldn't proceed with the internal works for those two weeks because we couldn't close up that area". Doesn't matter that they didn't properly inform you of the consequences - you gave a direction that was followed. Now you can argue the point about formal direction in writing vs a casual conversation etc, but I would try not to get into that position in the first place. Tell them what is wrong, ask for what they think are the solutions and accept the one that you prefer. At worst, ask if "such and such" would be possible and leave it up to them to say they will do it that way. Especially if the relationship with the SS is not great! They've installed the wrong items and commenced bricking. SS did say replacement of 1 item happening but installed original so brickies can work towards something. the other item he asked me to escalate to CSO cos he's done what he could from his end. Waiting for resolution. Guess I'll make use of the above advice plus your previous advices and make sure I log that brick work is still happening. Thanks mate Re: Sekisui | Burbank - Cedarwood1828 (frame inspection) 106May 02, 2017 9:32 pm No problems ehhc - happy to help whilst I still remember how it all went down At some point these sorts of things that I read up on previously will start to fade from the memory banks - but until that time, I will keep posting! In the beginning, I was dreading the train ride, changing trains, going there to make crap stuff, but we always left feeling happy. Now we just drive so it's a bonus haha. Think we're doing glazing next. Will post some pics after Sunday Sekisui | Burbank - Cedarwood1828 (frame inspection) 108May 02, 2017 10:16 pm shazaw No I have not try ceramics. I have killed many plants. gradually learned from mistakes and just have to talk to many experts on the field ( normally people standing behind the counter at the orchid shows). My best way of keeping orchids alive is give them every two years of re potting and less water during winter time. I have some succulents too. Will post photos on my Landscape Thread. I should re post some of my orchid photos. And don't know what to do with them (ie where type put them). So if you want a few let me know as they are going ok in pots but I'm trying to keep only the plants I put in the ground (or have deliberate pot plants!). I also have a couple of mango plants (this time I planted the ones shazaw gave me but these are other ones again!) so... A few extra plants if you want them when you are ready... Yvonneh, you can put bromeliads in hanging pot. Ecch, I'm already starting to divide some bromeliads... can give you different variety. Also do you like Variegated Liriope.... I will be dividing three very large pots of Liriope soon.... A 2nd batch of bricks arrived during the week. 23 courses laid to about 1/3 of the house. Lintels for brickwork over windows/doors delivered. Toilet finally delivered - and I don't really want to know how the tradies managed themselves in the last month. Haven't noticed any misaligned bricks or poorly spaced mortar joints. Expansion joints are in the right locations. Also it looks like for the window sill and door threads, they cut the bricks to equal size and marked out locations on the course directly below, so that they are evenly spaced when laid. Wonder if the mortar will become more white after brick clean and as it dries to out. Looking forward to see what they do next week Quite happy with the quality of brickwork so far, but then maybe I just don't know what to look out for... Feel free to report any issues spotted! The Veriegated liriope looks nice. What size pots will they need to be in? Re: Sekisui | Burbank - Cedarwood1828 (frame inspection) 119May 08, 2017 9:39 am Wow, bricks are looking good and nearly finishing. Bromeliads that I have required part shade, Liriope can be in the pots but mainly use for border edging in the ground. Best to grow in a row or mess planting in one area.
