Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 16, 2008 6:23 pm Hi everyone,
I've been following all your ups and downs for a while now while my husband and I have been preparing to start building our own home. I've loved looking at the progress of many of your homes (especially Phoenix!) and have been very inspired by your colour selections. So, now that I feel like a stalker, I thought I should make myself known. We're building a modified Heron 214 with C0r@l H0mes and so far have been really pleased with them. We've received the contract and everything looks great. I've decided to change the kitchen layout...again... but I think we're finally happy with everything and can't wait to get started. My first question is one I'm sure I already know the answer to, but thought I'd check anyway: Do you need to worry about getting your solicitor to check the building contract? Its a standard HIA contract and everything is as we expected. Seems we'd be paying for information we already know, but obviously, there's the risk we've misinterpreted something. Re: Thought I should finally say hello... 3Aug 18, 2008 10:45 am Hi JellyLegs, welcome to the forum!
Absolutely yes, get a solicitor to look at the building contract! Have a look at my story as to why I think you should http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=6540 After 2 false starts, a year living overseas, two more world trips and 3 years of uncertainty we are now starting the build process again - hopefully for real this time! Re: Thought I should finally say hello... 4Aug 18, 2008 11:05 am Hi JellyLegs congrats on building with Coral, we built with them 11 years ago in the Redlands - Brampton 232 25sq. They were the most easiest builders to deal with, we made so many changes (deleted the dining and put the space in the kitchen and bedroom 2, totally redesigned the kitchen and added a huge pantry. Nothing we ever asked them was a bother, it was a great experience. My parents also built with them a year after us, again no problems at all. I highly recommend them
I like your floor plan, great how you can close off the back part of the house and that the kids rooms are away from the living. We didn't get our contract looked over by our solicitor. We did read through it word by word with a rep from our builder and anything we wanted clarification on we asked about. We were comfortable in it so didn't bother. Happy at Home Re: Thought I should finally say hello... 5Aug 18, 2008 4:52 pm muzzman Hi JellyLegs, welcome to the forum! Absolutely yes, get a solicitor to look at the building contract! Have a look at my story as to why I think you should http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=6540 Ouch. That's a shocking way to start out. Thanks for giving me the heads up. Hate to say it though...we have signed the contract without getting legal advice. Hopefully we wont live to regret it, but we're feeling pretty confident that we know what we're in for Our sales rep went through the whole thing with us on Sunday, pointing out the 'butt covering' that we accept has to be in there to protect them from any losses. Ok. Fingers and toes crossed that we wont regret it! House-To-Be: Glad to hear you had a positive experience. So far we've been really very pleased with all the help our sales rep has given to us. We signed the contract for the land 11 months ago and couldn't settle on it until July. In the meantime, we've picked his brain continuously and he's been very very helpful. Yep - we love the activity room.. Good bye Kids Mess! Re: Thought I should finally say hello... 6Aug 18, 2008 10:02 pm Hi Jellylegs I am also new to this forum but have been a 'voyer' for a about a month previously.
I have learnt so much from this website (first time builder!) and feel very comforted that there are so many people going through the same process and that can offer some great insight into issues! Welcome to the forum!!!!!!! Kylie handover happened 15/6/09...love living on an acre but still so much to do! A question. Im in Queensland and building a new home. We managed to reach practical completion 6 weeks ago but we haven't heard any date for handover yet. Who should we… 0 5807 i imagine you also have another contract with an architect? and yeah, whatever other's said about special conditions and appendices 16 16007 hey there! π so, itβs kinda common for standard drawer depths to be around 500mm since most cabinets use this size to fit the usual runners… 3 20908 |
