Does anyone know if a brick bond lay at the bottom of a wall should continue up to the roof? My bricklayers seem to think it is ok to just move all vertical lines once they hit a window sill and cut bricks all over the place. Is this acceptable under QLD construction standards? I can't believe how atrocious our brickwork is.... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: A vue of the pines on the Gold Coast 644Mar 10, 2018 4:11 pm That looks terrible! Not sure what the rules are but how can anyone be happy to present that work as their best? Isn’t someone on here building with Corals hubby a brickie? I just can’t remember who?!? Will try remember Re: A vue of the pines on the Gold Coast 648Mar 10, 2018 5:47 pm Thanks for all the support guys... I have invested so much in this build and I’m really emotional about it. I don’t think it’s acceptable at all - it’s the worst brick work I have ever seen! I’m also wondering what the other side of the house looks like - it was a total mud pit so I didn’t venture around. - B A vue of the pines on the Gold Coast forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=87210 Re: A vue of the pines on the Gold Coast 650Mar 10, 2018 11:00 pm Bridgetwitch Need some advice my lovelies! It’s not getting rendered, it’s face brick. - B A vue of the pines on the Gold Coast forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=87210 Re: A vue of the pines on the Gold Coast 652Mar 11, 2018 11:40 am ours is looking the same as yours. I've sent emails already to our builder to ask if they think that's good workmanship. I'm sure if they were working on their own house, it wouldn't look like that. I will be demanding they replace or render everything if its not up to par. I’m about to send an email to HO telling them we will not be paying the latest invoice until the poor workmanship is rectified (not to mention they have invoiced for enclosed stage before we have our back sliding door in, or all the brickwork actually finished). I’m starting to get really mad! 🤬 Do you have any pics of your brickwork gr8ly? I’m just now catching up on your thread and will be following along. - B A vue of the pines on the Gold Coast forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=87210 Re: A vue of the pines on the Gold Coast 655Mar 11, 2018 3:46 pm Bridgetwitch It’s disgusting isn’t it! Brick work is one of them. We visited today, and we noticed they have finished the brickwork when we told them not to until they rectify the existing work. Not attention to detail.. obviously scraped from the bottom of the barrel when they were chosen. Nothing is consistent.. we didn't check every wall, but every one i checked had issues. You shouldn’t have to but it’s best to check on this stuff every day and at the first sign of a crap job, even one brick, ring the supervisor and halt all work until fixed. Better to get it early than end up with a completed house of substandard brickwork. Can almost guarantee whoever has done that probably did it with ice or hooch still in the system, either the aftermath of a big weekend/night, or scarier whilst on the actual job (yes it does happen). Will be interesting to see what these builders propose as a fix. I will be demanding different bricklayers, that’s for sure! - B A vue of the pines on the Gold Coast forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=87210 Re: A vue of the pines on the Gold Coast 658Mar 11, 2018 4:39 pm gillybean Disgraceful workmanship, embarrassing for all concerned. I agree gillybean. How can these builders proudly advertise a quality build on their signs out the front of site, when all you can see is disgusting brickwork!? I do go up to the house every day (luckily we live about 5mins away), but I don’t like to wander around if there are still tradies working. Unfortunately our feature wall fix was all done in a day on Friday - so I texted my SS straight away. Not looking forward to his response tomorrow, as I really don’t need the stress, but I’m ready to fight if need be! - B A vue of the pines on the Gold Coast forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=87210 Re: A vue of the pines on the Gold Coast 660Mar 12, 2018 11:28 am Apparently many brickies are going out on their own after finishing their apprenticeships thinking they know it all and are undercutting the experienced ones. As there is a shortage of good experienced brickies, builders don't want to wait and/or pay them more, hence the less experienced ones are getting the work and now the issues we are seeing. Regardless there is no way you should have to put up with it.
