Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 25, 2017 3:23 pm Hello Everyone, First time poster, long time follower from SE QLD. We need some urgent and clear advice regarding our 2mm vinyl flooring (glue down, not click) we had laid Wednesday this week (22/3). Long story short, the skirting boards have been in place for months and the planks have been laid up to the skirting. Skirting has even been painted. The end result was actually gut wrenching and after our walkthrough yesterday there has been some measure made to fix the problem this morning but it's still so very ordinary. Our slab did not have any kind of levelling done apart from some grinding that still left some dig in marks that needed patching anyway. It's my belief and common sense, and even in the manufacturers instructions that skirting be removed before planks are laid. Apparently the flooring contractors assured the builder multiple times that this was the way to do it. We have an island bench with waterfall ends and one end is okay (the less visible one, of course) because it sits higher than the slab (because it isn't level) so the planks could tuck in a little and its very neat looking but the other end was very messy and is still not as precise as it should be as it's in a heavy traffic area and very noticeable. Handover is supposed to be in two weeks and shortly after that we'll be homeless (!) but I think we need to have the skirting removed, all edging pieces around entire perimeter re-done and skirting replaced. At the moment they're talking about doing a bead of silicone around the edge to cover up the poor workmanship. This really doesn't sit right with me. I'll see if I can get the photos up. In some you'll also notice questionable carpentry with door jambs not meeting skirting at ground level. We also have one very crooked wall and some other visibly crooked plastering/carpentry that we really didn't expect to see from a builder who builds frames from scratch. What are our rights and how much should I dig my heels in? Therefore my advice is dig your heels in hard and check your rights with the HIA and consumer affairs/fair trading agency in your state. That bad workmanship should not be accepted unless this is well meaning friends doing this work for you for free. All the best to you. Re: New Build - problems with vinyl floor planks 4Mar 26, 2017 11:11 am Holy cow amandle that's not acceptable. Give the QBCC a call, they have a 24 hour phone line to help people with issues just like yours. They also have building inspectors who can advise what meets building code and tolerances.
