Can't help exactly, but I can tell you that ground works can be plagued with unknowns, so can be expensive. All other things being equal, above ground will generally be cheaper. That said, if you are already building a basement or cellar and the tank will just sit alongside, then the difference could be minor. You will need to consider accessibility for maintenance though. Re: Underground Rainwater Tanks 3Apr 11, 2017 4:34 pm slime line tanks = $8k +/- $100. generally includes pump/control system. pro - easy to install, cheap to buy tank, base can be included in slab stage, or away from slab using either crusher dust, sand or concrete. cons - cant always get all SW to tank, large and ugly, bulking taking space in yard, does get UV affected. typically the strainer goes first leaving a 600mm opening, causing mozzies breading, dead bugs and sometimes dead cats/possums etc. underground - $18k. earthworks, tank ($4k) backflow prevention devices plus servicing each year, pump, control system. Benefits cant see it, and pretty much can get all SW to the tank. Can install it generally in varied locations, including in slab of a garage. That was always going to be a challenge and a test of patience. Full marks to your mate.
