Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Here we go again... 24Apr 10, 2017 7:48 pm I'm a bit late to this thread, and am glad to see that there is progress again on your build PolkaDots - great looking roof. During my first build the builder went into liquidation, so I feel the pain, and am glad you are able to move forward. (I knew I'd recovered when I found I was thinking about building again!) Lovely choices you've made, and good for you with your two tubs in the laundry. Never understood why more people don't have them when they are so useful. Sorry to hear about your first build but glad to hear you got through it. Hahahaha, thanks for the thumbs up about the two troughs. Here we go again... 26Apr 22, 2017 9:08 pm So a few updates since I last posted. House is wrapped and bricks were supposed to start on Friday but thanks to Melbourne's wet autumn weather it will have to wait until after Anzac Day when the rain is supposed to stop. We've changed our facade slightly and we will now have weatherboard across the garage too (instead of rendered), which I'm just so happy about. Also changed the colour of our bench tops in the kitchen, ensuite and bathroom. We are now going with Ceaserstone Ocean Foam. I didn't mind our initial pick of Urban, but because we have to have the same colour in all three areas (to cut costs), I thought the Urban would've been too dark for the kitchen. The cup pulls were originally a bright chrome, the supplier I found don't make them in the brushed/ matt look, and as nice as the chrome looks the fingerprints would drive me insane!! So I took a kitchen scourer to it (rubbed it over a few times in the same direction) and got the desired look i was after Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Here we go again... 27Apr 28, 2017 11:10 pm Would you mind sharing where you found your cup pulls? I have been searching for ones exactly like these for ages but the ones I have found are way more than I want to spend. Must be a huge relief to see your house starting to take shape again, I'm looking forward to seeing it come together. Re: Here we go again... 28Apr 29, 2017 7:58 am Thanks Mangos. Yes it is a relief to start seeing things moving again. Although now, our brick layer, who was supposed to start a week ago has decided to just up and leave so we are now waiting for another to become available. I didn't realise how scarce bricklayers were!! Hopefully one becomes available soon... and hopefully this rain also stops. I will send you the link for the cup pulls Re: Here we go again... 29Apr 29, 2017 8:32 am mangos Would you mind sharing where you found your cup pulls? Why would we as we were told at the start of last week that the new brickie wouldn't be starting until tomorrow. My dad went past today and look!! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Apparently they're going to be FINISHED the bricks tomorrow!! What a nice surprise!! Oh and can I just say how much I love the colour of our bricks, even when they're still dirty. Re: Here we go again... 32May 22, 2017 10:05 pm So just a quick update. Nothing happened at the house last week. We thought that we would've had our weatherboard done but unfortunately no. I dropped our kitchen cabinet hardware off to our builder on the weekend so the kitchen guy can put these on when he's ready. Tomorrow our heating is going in and my brother-in-law will be doing all our electrical this week. I've been told that Monday our aircon will be going in. We decided to do this ourselves and opted for ducted Evap throughout the whole house plus a split system in the main living area. Next Tuesday our insulation goes in and then Wednesday plaster starts!! Re: Here we go again... 40Jun 16, 2017 8:44 am Sorry that last post didn't seem to work properly- yes we are in and I have to say it feels great not to be living out of boxes anymore, even partially. With the cold and dark at the moment we are really just concentrating on stuff inside, outside is going to have to wait a bit longer, but we did manage to get all the concreting done so we can walk around the house without getting too muddy. Most of the main furniture is in, just have to get cracking on the 'styling' lol. Doing one thing at a time at the moment to make sure it all goes together. New dining table setting is due tomorrow so looking forward to that - we ordered it after moving in to ensure that the size would be ok. Will contiue to watch your build, hope it goes quickly.
