Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 14, 2017 5:45 pm Hi all. If we buy a unregistered vacant land. After registration how long can we keep it vacant without building on it? Is it 2 upto 2 yrs that we can delay building? What the cost of keeping a vacant land? - mortage of the land - council rates - water/ service fees on vacant land? - stamp duty to be paid at the time of rego? -anything else? Re: Cost of keeping registered vacant land for 2 yrs 2Mar 14, 2017 5:47 pm Depending on the developer. You will need to look at your contract. You won't need to pay for water unless there is a house connected to water. Council rates is payable. What should i look for in the contract? You should be looking for special conditions in your contract about how long you can leave the land vacant for or whether construction must start within a certain period. If your solicitor hasn't given you advice about this then it can be an issue if there is a special condition clause as I advise my clients about this.
