Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our Custom Hamptons Inspired Home 121Mar 24, 2017 9:34 pm Today had a few emails from our builder. Our site levels were checked again as there was confusion with different levels and the surveyor says we need 350mm of fill to the front of the house. The problem is that fill over 300mm means piers which will cost a lot more. So now waiting for the engineer to look at it and see if we can keep it to 300mm of fill by lowering the house a little. This should be ok as our block it set up from the road. Just hope they can do it. A few weeks back I asked to get some info on our window profiles as I had a feeling I should just double check everything before they were ordered. Now it seems like I've inadvertently opened a can of worms. Apparently the window supplier has just realised the quote has not been updated since we did our 6 star. They've now updated it and reckon we are up for an extra $1.5k! In checking the revised quote I've also noticed issues like sliding doors going the wrong way, our stacker has 4 instead of 3 panes of glass, and the window above the stairs is an awning type instead of fixed (god knows why they thought we'd want to open it as we'd need a ladder to get to it LOL). So will need to sort these out. Think it might be a good idea to also pop into their showroom and check things like glass tinting and obscure glazing to make sure we are happy before we finalise anything. The other issue that has occurred to me are the window reveals. Given our windows in the kitchen and the galley go down to bench height, think we need square set reveals rather than standard timber. I guess it's another thing to add to the growing list of variations! And I still have to finalise all of our tile selections... I hope they are only small ones and you work it out quickly (and cheaply!). Just think how beautiful it will be in the end. Re: Our Custom Hamptons Inspired Home 123Mar 25, 2017 2:42 pm Wow lucky you checked the windows. Shame about the extra $1.5k. I suppose it could have been a lot more and at least you will have the windows you want. Don't they have to honour the price, it is not your fault they did not update their documents? By the way who are you building with? If you do not mind me asking. Our Custom Hamptons Inspired Home 125Mar 25, 2017 3:23 pm Magavin Sounds like the first few building hiccups have started Dani. Well it's the window supplier not the builder. The builder got a quote from them before we our energy rating report was finalised so I guess it's got to be updated. We are going with a small, local builder who has their own designs but also does custom. If you would like their details, PM me. Wouldn't be nice to discover the windows and sliders after they had been put in! Being a small local builder I'm sure they will have it sorted out pretty quickly and you'll be off and running! I went for a sneak peak today and my kitchen is well on its way! So exciting!! I even have pendants Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Panelling on island. Yes that's exactly what I mean about the kitchen windows. Interesting about tiling the reveals. It looks great. I'll have to ask about that. Frustrating but what can you do? In the last few days I've been on the phone to the energy rater, window supplier, drafty and visited the window showroom and tile showroom!! Now waiting on a quote from another window supplier as the first one would not produce the boutique 3 panel stacker door we wanted. Was definitely worth going to the showroom to view and discuss options, especially in this day and age with so many types of glass. It's really important to understand what you are getting and what you are paying for in regards to thermal insulation, noise transmission, solar blocking, privacy glass, etc. Type of stacker door we would like: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Also finalised our tile selections. In the end decided to add a pencil edge tile to finish the half height subway walls. Every Hamptons bathroom pic on Pinterest has some sort of edging tile so it was bugging me not having it, even in the shade of white is slightly different because they are not an exact match. Pencil edge like this: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ How are things with you? I hope you get what you want. When you have a vision sometimes no other option will do. Would you have the frame black or another colour? Nice job with the pencil edge. I didn't even think of it when I did my selections. Would of neatened up the edges of the tile especially the beveled type which have different thicknesses. Oh well I'm still extremely happy with them! Grout is now done and my mechanic pendants are now hanging in my ensuite.ive gone for a more industrial look in our master bed ensuite as a bit of a retreat from the rest of the house. I also chose my cabinet handles today. I was tossing up between the more traditional chrome cup pulls or long square modern handles. In the end I went with the modern touch as hubby isn't a huge fan of the cups. Interested to know what everyone else is doing in their Hampton inspired kitchens Hopefully we will be in by Easter!! The interior decorated assigned to us at World of Style scoffed and said "You can't have those, they won't match" (although we have since seen them everywhere in Hampton style homes and still think they look lovely). We picked a skinny long handle (Savelli) but it has a slight bit of ornate detail which matches the knobs (Salemi) for the cupboards. I'm still trying to decide between stackers, sliders, bifolds and the more traditional French doors. Magavin, mechanic pendants sound intriguingly industrial! Wanna see, please! Are they custom made? DH has an old sulky oil lamp that belonged to his grandfather back in the days when they still had horse drawn buggies around. I want to "electrify" it and use it at our front door, but I have no idea who to go to to get it done . Our Custom Hamptons Inspired Home 136Mar 31, 2017 7:56 pm Hillsbuilds they arnt nearly as intriguing as they sound. Just cage lights I got from Beacon.
I've stuck with the greys in the ensuite so it's not too out of place from the rest house but given it an industrial edge..... Sounds like your interior decorator needs brushing up on their hamptons knowledge haha but the handles you ended up with will look magnificent. I had a look at your blog and can't wait to see it come together. Re: Our Custom Hamptons Inspired Home 138Mar 31, 2017 10:03 pm Great photos Magavin! Those pendants definitely give it a more industrial edge. I'm sure the handles you've chosen will complement them. Can't wait to see it all finished. Already looks great! We are going with the cup pulls everywhere on drawers and the salemi knobs, Though the savelli handles are very nice Waldorf Stacker door will be white as per rest of our windows. BrownDog, you can should be able to put a screen door on them; you just need another track. The sales guys showed us on one in the showroom, not quite a boutique stacker but same size and so I imagine would be similar. I know Hillsbuild! It is very hard to decide. I love the idea of French doors, so chic, just hate the idea of cleaning all those little square panes of glass!! But we opted for a slightly more modern look anyway. Just hope we can afford it. Obviously every openable window will have them. But... just realised I don't want flyscreens on our two kitchen windows to ruin the view, and wouldn't match our galley window anyway which is a fixed window. So thinking maybe we should change them to fixed glass. Just not sure if I'd want to open windows when cooking. I never do at current house anyway, usually just put the evap fan on for 5-10 mins and tends to get rid of any smells. Thoughts? Our 37sq Custom Hamptons Inspired Home: http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=86931 Re: Our Custom Hamptons Inspired Home 140Apr 01, 2017 9:24 am You could always just get them and take them off. Then if you do need them later you'll have them. Our splash back window is fixed but apparently we had to as it's in front of a gas burner and there's a risk with having a draft come through near a gas flame and blowing the flame out I guess. Not that I'd want it openable anyway so that was fine. The window above our sink slides open and the fly screen they will put on will also slide open the same direction so we can use it as a server window Hi, can anyone recommend a custom home builder who can build in north east area?
