I suspect there is a bigger price difference but the supplier might be absorbing it as a saving on their end. Can you get a quote from a different stone installation company to compare? The difference on mine was about 4k! Yes it was a bit odd, but we are only having stone in the kitchen/galley (40mm) and 20mm in the powder and ensuite so I thought perhaps it was due to that. Perhaps I should follow up further... Re: Our Custom Hamptons Inspired Home - Frame Stage 503Oct 24, 2017 9:22 am Dani_J So the latest is: - Scaffolding is back up but no sign of linea boards yet - Quote from Stone Ambassador came in just over $1K cheaper than Caesarstone (very similar products/colours). Was hoping it would be a lot cheaper than that but I’ll take it! Maybe if we were having stone instead of laminate in the laundry and upstairs bath... - Builder came across a problem with our elevations in terms of our garage roof line. Turns out a last minute change to raise the roof line to get developer approval affected our upstairs rear windows windows and the front upstairs window over the garage. This was not picked up. We now need to raise the rear upstairs windows by 100mm which is no big deal. But the front upstairs window above the garage is too long. We now need to order a new, shorter window for that. Hope it doesn’t look terrible given the corresponding window on the other side will be longer Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ - Still waiting to have water tapping issue sorted. The infrastructure manager went out to inspect a few weeks ago and believes the point can be moved to the side of our driveway and tucked behind our retaining wall and this would be a lot better than relocating it to the other side of the block. Now just need confirmation from the water company. - Having second thoughts about our white subway wall tiles in the ensuite, powder etc. they are not really a traditional size being 100x300 which the tile consultant convinced me are less busy than smaller tiles and obviously they are way cheaper. BUT... is it going to look tacky?? Maybe just need to see more pics online to reassure myself lol like this one. Guess I’m just used to seeing the smaller ones on Pinterest which are more common Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Great to hear the update. Shane about shortening the window but I guess nothing that can be done about it. I don’t think anyone else will notice when looking at the facade. You know my views on the subway tiles as I went for the longer ones myself. Same reason too, way less busy. Are you having white grout or grey? I think small tiles with grey grout looks way too cluttered and chaotic personally. - View my blog at www.waldorfgrangebuild.wordpress.com Re: Our Custom Hamptons Inspired Home - Frame Stage 504Oct 24, 2017 10:01 am Waldorf_Grange_Build Great to hear the update. Definitely going white grout. Totally agree grey grout looks too busy unless you are specifically going for that modern look!! Re: Our Custom Hamptons Inspired Home - Frame Stage 505Oct 25, 2017 9:17 am Love the update Dani. I think the window will drive you crazy when they first put it up because you will be scrutinising it every day and looking at the plans until you go mad BUT I think once you are in you won't even think of it again and certainly no one else is going to notice. So try not to overthink and stress over it. As for the tiles my kitchen splashback ones are 100x200 and look fantastic. I didn't like the bigger ones. However in saying that I think for the bathrooms because there is going to be a lot of them I think the bigger ones will look better. Make the room more spacious and clean. Are you splashing out and getting the 100x200 for the blue kitchen ones? Would be worth doing for the feature Re: Our Custom Hamptons Inspired Home - Frame Stage 506Oct 26, 2017 6:43 am Magavin Love the update Dani. After looking at more pics online, the bigger subways do look less busy on a large wall, though as Waldorf Grange pointed out, it also depends on the grout. With white grout, I think smaller tiles can look pretty great too. For our kitchen splashback, the blue tiles come in 75x150 or 75x300. In the end I opted for the larger format as we have some small areas either side of our kitchen windows which I think would look pretty messy with small tiles by the time they are cut in half or thirds even to accommodate the brick bond pattern in a small space. Otherwise would have loved to go the smaller format. I think you’ve got the perfect size there on the 100x200! Unfortunately everything I liked did not come in this size. Re: Our Custom Hamptons Inspired Home - Frame Stage 507Nov 15, 2017 9:19 pm Hey guys, haven't had much to share of late but things are finally starting to pick up again. Builder assure me we will be at lock up stage with walls plastered by Chrissy. Thanks goodness. We are 7 months into our build already and it's looking like we won't be in for another 4-6 months. Gotta to have patience with a custom build but I'm sure it will be worth it! Today we met our builder and cabinet maker on site to review what we want for the cabinetry. They will then put together 2D drawings for us to sign off on as we did not get internal elevations done through our architect. We made a few little changes: - upgraded to shaker cabinetry in laundry and bathroom as per rest of the house - expanded bench and cabinets in laundry. Managed to convince hubby to sell our top loader and get a front loader instead - looks so much better when everything is under the bench! However he is adamant he doesn't want a clothes rack under the overhead shelf as reckons it looks tacky. So that's going. Guess I'll just have to get a dryer then ha ha. We are having a floating vanity in the powder room and realised the pipe is not set up that way so now the builder has to recess it somehow. Hope it can be properly concealed as don't want to see any ugly pipes underneath!! Also had a chat with the builder about the cavity sliders to the study. We brought this up months ago but only now they are saying they can't do them because the wall is load bearing. I don't really understand this. Anyone know what this is about? Carpenters were on site today and started installing the upstairs weatherboards. Can't wait to go back on the weekend and share some pics! Which means we REALLY need to decide on a paint colour. I was not happy with our original choice (grey pebble half) which is a bit beige. Have decided on Dieskau which is a popular weatherboard colour and hopefully complements the shale grey render of our ground floor and our Surfmist gutters/ downpipes. I'd guess that they can't put cavity sliders in as the cavity is hollow and if the wall is load bearing it needs to be strong enough to well bear the load so it needs full framing. Only a guess though. Oh and I love deisku it was my second choice for our interior walls. In the end vanilla quake won out but they are so similar I think deisku just had a touch more violet in it. Barely noticeable though but could only chose one. Oh and that door colour is amazing!!! I say go for it!!! ❤️ Re: Our Custom Hamptons Inspired Home - Frame Stage 515Nov 17, 2017 8:36 am Magavin Great to hear the updates Dani. In lieu of that I think we will have to stick with double doors. They suggested hanging the sliding doors on the outside but that looks terrible to me, so old fashioned! Your wall colour was a great choice. It’s so hard to choose one from so many and have to have to hope it will look good in different levels of light. For inside, I am still undecided whether to go with a light grey with warmer or cooler undertones... Yes the door colour was an amazing choice by the designer, just not sure if I am brave enough!! With the rain we’ve had I think they’ve been unable to get up on the scaffold due to OH&S. So no weatherboards up yet, just the sheeting underneath the eaves. Looks good though. We are going with -pebble grey full for the weatherboards. I think any of those grey tones will look great you can't go wrong. About the waste for the floating vanity. My plumber told me you can do a floating cabinet but have a recessed kickboard to cover the water pipe so it still looks like it's floating. We are considering doing this as the water pipe is in the ground on ours.
