Just the right shade of light grey we were aiming for. Definitely glad now we tested all those sample pots!! Third pic down is bathroom which is a darker shade. Hope this will really pop once half height wall of white subway tiles are installed. Also really happy with stain of the hand rail. It looks black in the photos but is actually a nice chocolate brown in person. All it needs is a coat of clear gloss. Steps also still to be stained in same chocolate brown and risers painted white. These will be done later to avoid getting damaged. Just wish things would start moving again. We have gotten screwed with the cabinetry big time. We were told in mid March it would done by the 11/4 at the latest and yet still no sign of it. Apparently the delay is with Laminex, not the cabinet maker. It's been around 9 weeks since it was ordered. Getting pretty peed off about it as can't start tiling or doing final fit out until it's in. Then there's the legal point of discharge issue. Council has verified the point is missing from the side of the block (we are on a corner) and says they will install a new point at the front because it's too hard to dig a trench under the rock retaining wall. Problem is, all our plumbing is aligned to where the point is supposed to be on the side, so it will take significant work, and money, to dig and connect the plumbing to the front instead. Council reckons the developer has admitted they've stuffed up and says we need to take it up with them. Just such a bloody headache. None of our services have been where they are supposed to be (apparently the gas guys can't find the gas point either) and the water point was ridiculously located in the middle of the driveway where you obviously can't put the water meter. I don't think that's even been sorted yet. My builder reckons he's never seen anything like this in the 20 plus years he's been in the business!! At this rate, this house seems like it's never going to get finished Just trying to busy ourselves now with getting quotes for the driveway and window furnishings. Thinking of going for a combination of sheers, curtains, shutters, and roman blinds but I am seeing dollar signs!! I am going to distract myself by sharing some Pinterest stuff. For the kitchen windows thinking a lantern pattern like top right. What I really want though is a white fabric with light blue/ grey pattern to match the kitchen splashback tiles - if it exists!! Got to keep trawling websites or better yet, get out to some showrooms. For the bathrooms where we already have privacy glass, love the look of the relaxed roman in light filtering fabric as per bottom right. Laminex took ages with our cabinets too. www.waldorfgrangebuild.wordpress.com Re: Our Custom Hamptons Inspired Home - Cabinets and tiles 687May 13, 2018 7:15 pm Hi all, finally have something good to report! Cabinets finally went in on Thursday and tiling started on Friday. Pretty happy overall with just a couple of issues. Main issue is kitchen island is too close to the back bench for my liking; just feels too cramped and not enough space to move around the dishwasher if it's opened. Hoping we can get the island moved out a bit to give us more space though might require moving of the taps. Time to put the foot down and get Council and the developer to sort this once and for all!! Our Custom Hamptons Inspired Home - Cabinets and tiles 688May 13, 2018 7:19 pm Oh and I forgot to mention we had another break in. Front door was kicked in and needs to be replaced. Luckily none of the tiles had been delivered yet so all they made off with is the shower waste
But makes me worry once basins and taps start going in whether they'll come back... Re: Our Custom Hamptons Inspired Home - Cabinets and tiles 690May 13, 2018 10:12 pm emmyawards Hi Dani how close is the island bench to the back one? It’s around 1 metre Re: Our Custom Hamptons Inspired Home - Cabinets and tiles 691May 13, 2018 10:26 pm Dani_J emmyawards Hi Dani how close is the island bench to the back one? It’s around 1 metre I just checked our gap and it is 1.2m Re: Our Custom Hamptons Inspired Home - Cabinets and tiles 692May 18, 2018 6:01 pm Waldorf_Grange_Build I just checked our gap and it is 1.2m Thanks WGB. We could have got away with an extra 20cm leaving the taps where they were for but decided to increase to an extra 50cm in the end as we’ve got plenty of space. Total gap now will be around 1.5m. Just wanted to make sure we can fully open the back draws and put things away while unloading the dishwasher. Re: Our Custom Hamptons Inspired Home - Cabinets and tiles 693May 22, 2018 7:51 am Tomorrow kitchen island gets moved so will be on site at 7am to work out our exact gap between that and back bench. Our dining area runs parallel to the island so we just need to make sure that we don’t push the island out too far at the expense of squishing the dining area lol. Also meeting wardrobe guy on site to work out our shelving for all the WIRs, pantry and linen cupboards. Can’t wait to get in there and take some pics of the finish tiling as haven’t had access since it was done. I think stone might be going in tomorrow or Thursday too Re: Our Custom Hamptons Inspired Home - Cabinets and tiles 694May 22, 2018 3:36 pm Dani_J Tomorrow kitchen island gets moved so will be on site at 7am to work out our exact gap between that and back bench. Will upload some pics tomorrow Re: Our Custom Hamptons Inspired Home - Cabinets and tiles 696May 24, 2018 6:08 pm Well it was a big day yesterday! On site at 7am bright and bushy tailed. Got our wardrobes and linen shelving designs sorted first up. Then it was onto to working out where to move this kitchen island. Cue our newspaper dining table template hastily taped together the night before! Played around with the position on the floor and decided a 1250mm gap between the back bench and island worked best without encroaching on the dining table. Next cabinet makers arrived on site to pull apart the island (felt a little bad for them lol) before plumbers arrived to drill the slab and relocate our taps. After that could finally check out our finished internal tiling. Really happy with how the splash back has turned out and glad we decided on the smaller tiles in the end. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ As for the rest, it’s all a bit blah to me. Feel like the floor tiles and the darker wall colour is all too dark. Really hope by the time we add some lovely mirrors and pendants it will brighten it up. Also need to decide what sort of capping tile to put on top of the white subways. Perhaps we should just tile up to the ceiling instead? Turns out we have like 14 boxes of the white tiles leftover. Someone obviously miscalculated big time!! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ By the weekend benchtops, basins and taps should be in, then electrical fit off next week. Hoping we don’t get broken into again and our overseas purchased pendants get stolen. Would be a huge pain to order them again and I don’t think insurance would cover it. Maybe we should hold off installing them? Re: Our Custom Hamptons Inspired Home - Cabinets and tiles 697May 24, 2018 6:33 pm Enjoying seeing your build come together. I’ve been patiently waiting to see how your splashback tiles came up as we chose the same ones and were worried about the uneven edge, but they’ve come up lovely! I’ve been patiently waiting to see how your splashback tiles came up as we chose the same ones and were worried about the uneven edge, but they’ve come up lovely! Thanks hbuild. When I saw these tiles, I didn’t have eyes for anything else! The only tough choice was whether to go the longer version or not. I’m sure they would have looked equally lovely but decided to stick with the more traditional subway size in the end. What other colours have you chosen for your kitchen? Would love to hear Re: Our Custom Hamptons Inspired Home - Cabinets and tiles 699May 25, 2018 6:31 pm Strange that they install you tiles on first before putting on the stone bench top. Just mean that they put the tiles behind the stone. I really like your kitchen tiles. Re: Our Custom Hamptons Inspired Home - Cabinets and tiles 700May 25, 2018 9:28 pm Everything looks great Dani!!!
