Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our Metricon Duxton 39- Coastal Facade 23Mar 12, 2017 6:52 pm The rain really started to worry us. The creek near our house flooded. The site flooded and the roof wasn't on. Given the cut in of the site with next to no drainage, water was everywhere, including all over the second level. Frustrating! 23rd September- garage roof constructed 24th September- guttering added, windows in Re: Our Metricon Duxton 39- Coastal Facade 24Mar 12, 2017 7:00 pm Time for pictures inside the house. Starting to really picture the rooms! Kitchen area. Glass splash back, really happy with that. Dining room windows. He has been a delight to work with by the way! Down to earth, realistic and great advice so far... Apparently M engineers stuffed up the lowering of the garage, forgetting to also lower the entrance door to the garage from the house. To fix it we were provided with some options, all at no cost to us as M's mistake. - take the whole roof off and raise the height of the garage, taking another 8 weeks (bugger that we thought!) - a smaller doorway so we'd have to duck to get from the house into the garage (yeah right!) - remove the door all together (no thanks) - leave the door height as-is, square set the celing, but the step down from the house would be right at the door entrance. We went for the latter option after much discussion with our SS. He explained how tricky the build had been in terms of the slope of the land and the need to lower the garage to ensure a suitable angle of the driveway. All confused us really, but we left it in his hands to fix and make right. Clearly not ideal! Since this problem, the stairs down into the garage have been replaced twice... Re: Our Metricon Duxton 39- Coastal Facade 28Mar 12, 2017 7:19 pm We are already loving the views from the house into the valley and to the water- even on a cold and miserable day. The weedy area over the road will be a massive reserve down the track. Great as our views wont be built out. Glad the hurdles were dealt with quickly and what an absolute breath taking view. Glad your almost to that finish line. Thanks so much for sharing Re: Our Metricon Duxton 39- Coastal Facade 35Mar 13, 2017 7:29 am PeteK Unfortunately, in the time taken between our original quote, the Coastal Facade option was no longer available. We were a bit unhappy with this, though settled on the Isla Facade. This was a compromise, still giving us a balcony even if it wasn't the same 'look' that we wanted near the coast. Funnily enough, a few days later we received an email from the sales consultant. Due to other houses in the immediate area using the Isla Facade (namely his own!!), we could have the Coastal Facade at no change or extra cost. Nice. Hah they should've just done it in the first place I must admit love the coastal facade. This was not available when we signed up 2015 Re: Our Metricon Duxton 39- Coastal Facade 36Mar 13, 2017 9:14 am Emmz70 Love the thread Pete of your progress. I know it's retrospective, but fun to look back and see how it comes together. You kind of forget the little bits along the way! Re: Our Metricon Duxton 39- Coastal Facade 39Mar 13, 2017 7:22 pm 10th November 2016 Electrical inside complete- they forgot a powerpoint, again SM onto this immediately. We like how he encourages us to pick things up and let him know as soon as possible so he can address our queries. It's about this time we received a random email from the Metricon office. They asked if we ever had received pictures of our ballustrade as the one one our site drawings differed from the one written in our contract. The ballustrade in our contract was a different design than the one on the drawings and...funnily enough and predicatably...cost almost $6K more if we wanted it. You can imagine our response. I had been looking at the plans for many months and thought we were getting the one in the picture and that it matched the writing/ description in the contract. Who would know if it didn't, we weren't builders! Anyway, long story short and not to labour on the process or the finer points of our negoatiations on this blog, we have sought independent advice and will consider our options post build if desired. Always nervous about plastering as any defects can be seen easily once paint goes on, particularly edges that aren't straight. Our last house had a terrible plastering job completed by fly-in plasterers from Sth Aust, so we were a little nervous. So far, so good!
