Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 04, 2017 7:45 am Hi all, We are building in a new development of about 20 houses. Since our build started in October it has been going really slowly. Our frame and roof were up in November and since then nothing has changed. Every time we go to check out the build during the day, there are maybe one or two contractors working on the entire development. Whenever we contact them they just give us some excuse. Yesterday I spoke to a neighbour who told me they're going broke. That the contractors aren't turning up because they're not being paid. I'm just after some advice on what we should do. This is our first home and it's really stressing me out! Thanks. Re: Think builder is going broke 2Mar 04, 2017 8:14 am What is the builders name. Both Watersun and Sulja homes have gone into liquidation recently on Victoria. Re: Think builder is going broke 4Mar 04, 2017 8:41 am I think you can check on the ASIC website. You could try ringing the ACCC in your state they should be able to help. Check your contract to make sure builder has valid insurance for your build. This will cover you if the builder goes into liquidation. Do a search for Watersun & Ashford Homes look for tash_paul and wickie and read the last couple of pages of their threads. It will give you detailed advice on the process. Re: Think builder is going broke 6Mar 04, 2017 2:18 pm Unfortunately I know what you are going through Jezzarose. I would check out the VMIA equivalent in your state to make sure you gave insurance & check what you are covered for. If they do happen to fold, tashpaul has posted info on my build thread which has been invaluable. Other than that there isn't much you can do but wait. Fingers crossed for you - keep us updated! Re: Think builder is going broke 7Mar 23, 2017 2:59 pm So is official, the builder has gone into administration. As we only have a frame and a roof, is there anything we will need to secure? Do you also think it's still worth putting up a sign? Should we be insuring the place now? Very all over the place at the moment, not sure what to do. Very all over the place at the moment, not sure what to do. Definitely get insurance and organise fencing ASAP. Not many insurance companies will do it, look for Wickies(Watersun Homes)thread and you will find all the info you need look for Tash_paul's post for Insurance company details. It must be absolutely horrible but there are ways to rescue your build if you follow the right steps. Just be prepared to spend a few thousand extra and add an extra 6 months or so to your build. I hope you manage to sort it out and still end up with a beautiful home. I would never build with Fowler homes. I built with them in 2021 and till date maintenance issues are pending.
