Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 14, 2008 10:21 am Recently there was a thread about a member having problems with tiling because of unevenness of the concrete slab.
Our bulder is planing to pour the slab next week ... is there anything we can do to make sure they get an even slab? And is there anything else we can (should?) check before and after they pour the slab? concrete slab 3Aug 14, 2008 11:11 am Hi Duminda
Great question I am sure a lot of people would be thinking along the same lines. My only suggestion would be to get someone ( surveyor perhaps)to double check the levels before the pour and maybe a follow up visit to compare after pouring, then you would know if it is within spec. Hope it helps Cheers Michael He wants a dream home theatre - she wants a dream kitchen! check if there is any crack. check if the plumbing is correct. check if they've got the correct number of bedrooms Re: Concrete slab - anything we can check/ do at base stage? 5Aug 14, 2008 6:13 pm Tell the SS or Construction Manager you are palnning on laying porcelain tiles and need the grano to be smooth in those particuar areas.
Make sure it is in writing via email or added to your addenda. That way everyone is covered. If the tiling is being done after handover, see if you can get a tiler to come in before hand so he can let you know if the levels are usuable that way it remains the builders responsibilty. To my understanding if you are not laying porcelain the tiler can build up certain imperfections without any hassle. Very tempted to use polished concrete with solar hydronic heating here in Canberra, has anyone gone down this path or thought about it? Would love to hear people's comments. Cheers Michael. We thought about it a little, or rather I did, but in the end it looked too expensive given that we are hoping not to need a lot of artificial heating with our passive solar design. We're still planning on polished concrete though . Sorry...not much help, am I. Thanks for the advice. Once the concreter put the slab framework in place I'll go there and check the dimensions and plumbing with the plans. DW knows JGK's building surveyor, so I'm also trying to get him to come and have look before they pour the slab. I might also get an independent inspection before I pay the base stage bill. I'll put some pictures on the blog once they finish it.
