How have you kept your sanity?!? š¤Ŗ - B A vue of the pines on the Gold Coast forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=87210 I honestly donāt know! It has affected my mental health that is for sure and our relationship. I had just started a new very senior job in Aug 2016 so this build couldnāt have happened at a worse time as my new job is much further away. In fact we decided at that time to hold off signing the contract over to them (we had a small window to pull out) and sell the land and buy something nearer my new job. The problem was we were liable for a huge capital gains tax bill so we decided to build, move in and sell up after 6 months to avoid this tax bill. We are now so exhausted from this process and from what they have done to us as a couple and a family that we will move in and just wait and see how we feel after 6 months. Also, the house is lovely and the layout feels more and more perfect for us, as far as the long commute is concerned I have gotten used to it although... on Thursday I had an accident on my way to work so that has put the whole stress of my commute back on the agenda again. I just know if we sell up then we will never be able to afford a house anywhere near like what we have nearer to my work in the city so there will be huge compromises to make and ....not sure if I can face the prospect of someone else living in our house that will have had so much blood sweat and tears poured into it!! It will feel like all this stress was for nothing. Re: Our Acacia Home 643Mar 11, 2018 11:43 am trimum Bridgetwitch OMG... I didnāt realise your house is still being built after over a year! I know the toll this process can have on your mental health... and my saga has not gone on for as long as yours! I sincerely hope your home brings you lots of joy, and you can finally get on with your life. You are obviously very strong to have gotten through it - and your nearly at the finish line! If you are going to sell this place, you may not find same quality at different area closer to city. As a matter of fact the closer you come to city the land get smaller with older home build and most likely too much renovation to do, as well as paying higher price. Me and hubby almost had mental breakdown due to storm water problems, yes we even think of selling the land and buying somewhere. As we checked out other newer build property, we come to realized that we cannot find what we are going to build plus the cost of buying another house, the stamp duty alone knocked us out. I know traveling to work take very long each day, live in the house for 1 year or two to see how you feel. My hubby worked at Sydney city and moved to Macquarie than he move back to North Sydney. Workplace may change in future for you, perhaps you may find work closer to your current house. Hang in there. my aunt bought a place near The Pond and now the prices in that area have gone up. So in 5 years time the house prices in your area will go up too. I do wish you best, keep cool and calm. Iām ok after the accident thanks but my car needs to go in for repair for a couple of weeks, two other cars involved but fortunately and most importantly no one was hurt. We are starting to think about moving and getting the garden of our rental into some kind of presentable condition for when we hand it over, we really have let it go but have made a start on it at least. Itās feels strange at the moment like living in limbo. We came to Australia 5 years ago and been renting since then, I never thought it would take this long before we would be in our own place! Canāt wait to stop renting. Re: Our Acacia Home 646Mar 11, 2018 8:07 pm Have you started planning on landscaping. This is also good to take your mind off on the house. Every time I feels down, I go to visit plants nursery, ikea to check out on storage and spotlight for cushions. Your house plan and my house plan have three living area so I always think of ottoman and hunting for cushions for lounge. Build Thread : viewtopic.php?=31&t=81624 Re: Our Acacia Home 647Mar 14, 2018 8:12 pm Thanks yes we are looking at a few things to buy, I really love looking for homewares and am spending / putting too much on lay-by so need to start to hold back! We had a text from our SS who is now back from holiday telling us that our house will be cleaned this week and next week we will have our windows serviced and fly screens installed. No mention of the other 101 things still needing to be done... Re: Our Acacia Home 648Mar 14, 2018 8:54 pm Yes my SS told me cleaning will be done today, but no cleaner so far. Don't know how he will get the house finish before his holiday on 11th April. Build Thread : viewtopic.php?=31&t=81624 Re: Our Acacia Home 649Mar 16, 2018 5:32 pm Well we have a ācleanā house, the house is cleanish except the floor is absolutely filthy still, you can see a thick coat of grout/dust/dirt that layers on the tiles floor. It looks like a small effort has been made to move the dirt and dust around the floor! I hope there is another clean before handover. Still no garage door, still no further forward on lots and lots of little jobs and Iāve noticed the toilets are the wrong ones we were meant to have as per the āinfinity upgradesā. Going to go put up a fight to have the correct ones installed. Fed up with their short changes in multiple items. Fed up full stop...another week and all they do is clean. Their priorities are ****. Re: Our Acacia Home 650Mar 16, 2018 6:31 pm Thatās so bad!! Youād think the office will improve their purchase orders after all the wrong stuff theyāve installed at both our places Re: Our Acacia Home 651Mar 16, 2018 6:51 pm I had info from Cleaners that there are 3 stages of cleaning, I think they will do floor cleaning last as all other trades are still walking in and out. Yes, they have short changes us on toilets. The problem is all toilets are in if we wants to have upgraded toilets we have already paid for... they will damage tiles on the wall and tiles on the floor when they remove the wrong one they had already installed. So what should we do now? I want my house asap. I don't want to wait for them to go back and forth on making decision. How long do we have to wait till they make any decision, so planning to ask for difference before we make final payment. Build Thread : viewtopic.php?=31&t=81624 Re: Our Acacia Home 652Mar 17, 2018 3:38 am Ohh you too shazaw? Depends if you mind the product theyāve used or not. The credit they might give may not be satisfactory. Man i would ask them now so you can weigh up whether to press for swap or keep Re: Our Acacia Home 653Mar 22, 2018 6:12 pm We met with our SS this morning for another walkthrough and also because we had the carpets and blinds people coming to measure up. Only a couple of things done this week due to the weather- flyscreens for all windows including the slider doors are on, we were surprised at that as we didnāt think we were going to get them for the sliders. Also all the silicon beading is complete for everywhere. The garage door is being fitted on Monday, the driveway which was due tomorrow has now been rescheduled due to the rain but also the original tradie took another job. The outdoor painting for the pergola was due to be done yesterday but rain cancelled that. PCI was being tentatively projected for end of March but SS now says mid April. The cleaners havenāt done a great job, we will get a second basic clean but it will be a ābuilders cleanā so basically a wipe down with a dirty rag Plumber needs to come back for a few jobs, kitchen people need to come back and service the cupboards, electrician needs to do a few things interior painter too as well as carpenter. Itās so piecemeal I feel like organising the tradies myself!!!! At least the build is moving forward š¤š» Re: Our Acacia Home 655Mar 22, 2018 9:26 pm Trimum, it's always good to see what they have done when you walk in. If they have earmarked you for PCI date than they have to really push through outstanding items to finish. Nearly there trimum... we are nearly there. At least you have sort out carpet and blinds. I have no quote for blinds... not really look into it yet. The flyscreens ads fitted. Canāt wait to move in! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Small hole in the floor between ground and first floor measuring about 5cm diameter. I looked down with my torch...no insulation batts which we paid $1800 for! Immediately raised with SS who said that because that was above the garage we wouldnāt have insulation batts there but they were done for the rest of the ceiling. The hatch the other end of the house that provides access to the alfresco roof shows batts above the alfresco roof so not sure whether we are being scammed.... without boring a hole through other areas of the first floor I donāt know how we can prove either way. They did do us a huge favour in insulating the walls between the master and second bedroom as an extra/freebie so I am thinking about just letting it go. Re: Our Acacia Home 657Mar 23, 2018 12:25 pm Yes I also have similar hole on hallway floor next to staircase, think this is result of safety metal boards that cover staircase. SS did say it will be cover up or patch up. I don't have any insulation batts for alfresco ceiling or outdoor living ceiling. Build Thread : viewtopic.php?=31&t=81624 Re: Our Acacia Home 658Mar 23, 2018 6:45 pm I hope we get it patched we did say it needed doing! Itās a rodent sized hole in the meantime... We have ticked over 60 weeks of a 40 week build today. I reckon another 10 weeks minimum maybe more before we are actually in the house and sleeping overnight. Everything is so painfully slow right now, I really thought last year we would be in by this Easter and itās really hit me today that we are still so far away from that happening. A friend of mine today remarked she couldnāt believe I am so patient. Iām not!! Iām angry, Iāve threatened them with legal action, pleaded, complained and nothing has helped get things moving any faster. Iām out of fight with them. Iāve accepted it will finish when itās finished for my own mental health it has to be like that. Re: Our Acacia Home 659Mar 24, 2018 1:44 pm Trimum I feel you pain, and send my very best wishes to you. Hoping that they get on with finishing the house for you. Thanks Variegated I think I ebb and flow depending on how much work they do!! I guess I have been expecting so much more to have been done this month but anyhow every little thing they do is progress! Hubby had just called as he has taken our eldest son and his girlfriend up to the site (he has left home so not been to see it for quite a while) it was locked up but they could see appliances are there and another drainpipe has been connected. Very surprised at appliances! We already paid for somfy motors for the blinds. The quote above was purely for āpre-wiringā so the blinds company can install the motors and blinds. Thatās why we… 5 16274 of course there are legal avenues. You've already mentioned it. Sue them.
