Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 02, 2019 4:20 pm Due to cost we opted not to have niches in our showers, so now need to look at other options for storing shampoos etc Has anyone had a shower shelf (either ceramic or glass/chrome) installed by the tiler during the build process? If so, can you post a photo? Thx heaps. Re: Shelf in shower 3Jun 03, 2019 3:56 pm ![]() why were you getting charged extra? its the same amount of tiles and material etc a tiny bit of extra labour to cut the tiles to fit strange The shower niches were costed at around $500 each, something to do with having to install a double wall. Hence why we are looking to install some other kind of shelf within the shower recess. I am sort of in the industry which is why I find it funny to see tricky ways builders try to extract more money, such as excessive site costs and and drop edge beams etc A shower niche is simply created by leaving a gap between the studs and noggins and then sheeting the recess or niche which is then waterproofed and tiled. Anyway, I know that doesnt help your current situation so sorry to hear Re: Shelf in shower 5Jun 04, 2019 12:53 pm We had PomD'or Metric "soap dishes" installed, available in several sizes: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Googling for info shows something from one supplier here. Chosen partially because the shelf lifts out for cleaning, and the rail stops things falling off. The ones we've got are about 20cm long so will fit a shower-gel, a shampoo & a conditioner next to each other; we've two stacked one-above-the-other above the shower mixer-taps, and in the main & ensuite we have another near the shower-head. Thx, looks great. How does it install? (I checked the website but no clues there) Re: Shelf in shower 8Jun 04, 2019 7:25 pm I didn't do it myself so unsure, but I assume they make sure there's some wooden frame at the correct height behind the waterproof gyprock, then when tiling is done they drill holes through the tiles & use screws into the wooden frame.
